So what do you do with the originals, throw them away?

What about that information that isn’t keyed in or typed in?

Gone forever?

The information may be kept as long as storage is available. But, in some conversions I have worked on, the papers are thrown away as soon as all the bugs are worked out and the conversion is successfully completed. The systems analysts usually will work with department heads to decide what information should go into the new computer files and what shouldn't. When I was younger and made deposits to my savings account when the computer was down--for some reason the amount always came up short. I had a receipt, but still my account had to be closed for 10 days while the bank did an audit.
