Dan, go back and re-read your rant. Everything you stated (and more) are the result of problems created by the Congress. With the credit crisis, oil crisis, rising unemployment (the last two, by the way, the result of not drilling for our own oil), massive tax increases looming (due to Congress refusing to make Bush’s tax cuts permanent), the most important thing that the Congress has to do is listen to Dennis Kucinich file pointless impeachment charges against the president while the Senate is wasting time with a Glowbull Warming bill that went nowhere and the Supreme Court decides to grant Constitutional rights to people who hate us and only want to kill us.

In the meantime, the most important thing on Bush’s shrinking brain is the creation of the US Institute of Peace and giving 30 BILLION of OUR tax dollars to Africa to fight AIDS. All of this raises the question - who’s minding the store? Whose looking out for the taxpayers who fund all this silly nonsense?

If you can’t tell from this rant of mine, I’m extremely unhappy with these clowns.

I guess I’m thinking longer term. When there is only one party there will be room for another. If this is working, then it would indicate we need to pull strong and hard to the right. No moderation in defense of liberty.

The last straw would be if this Supreme Court rules in favor of DC in the DC gun ban case that’s pending. Fortunately, that’s unlikely, thanks to Bush’s Supreme Court appointments.

Well the same court just ruled that illegal combatants, those who fight or spy while not in uniform, and are caught on foreign battlefields, have the same right to habeas corpus relief in US federal courts, as someone born here and charged keeping and/or bearing an "illegal" firearm.

I was pretty confident of the outcome in "Heller" until they did that. Now you might as well flip a coin as far as predicting what this Court might do in any given case, even after hearing all the arguments and reading all the briefs.

Come back and talk to us in two or four years after McCain has had time to work his magic. IMO, there are going to be a lot of folks who thought McCain was going to save their ass, who will be furious by then.

I'm already bitter, I plan to be a lot more bitter in the next four or eight years. And you know what bitter white guys do, don't you?

I just don’t think you ever win by quitting and hoping to start all over.

We only can win by inches. Just look at how the democrats operate. If they lose in one area - do they quit and start all over because their people failed in one way or another?

No, they just sliver over to another area and made a gain there. They are like the slow moving blob. We are agile and running every direction - but they just ooze this direction or that direction always moving forward.

You will never see them talk about dumping the party and hoping the time is right for a new party (of course that new party would have absolutely no power, no numbers - sort of like Ron Paul’s efforts.)

Just my humble opinion.

Maybe we need to protect our flanks, reach out in directions to bring in good people and move our objective where we can.

Maybe now is the time of preventing more damage and repairing our defenses to make the next assault when the opportunity presents itself.

Obama has already told us. They cling to their guns and bibles.

We only can win by inches.

But they have to be inches forward. McCain is if anything moving back, that is leftward, from Bush. Not much, inches as you say, but the wrong direction none the less.

Yes, I agree, BUT ...........

We also have to cover our flanks in order not to lose more “inches”. Remember the 3 supreme court judges that will be appointed by either Republicans - to interpret the laws OR democrats - to make laws that American people do not want - from the bench.

Remember the tax cuts that Obama will not extend and the further taxing that he will exert at every opportunity. McCain will extend the tax cuts and prevent more taxes.

Remember the belief that with democrats in power, there will be procedures to do away with talk radio thereby shutting down that avenue for us to spread the truth.

Remember that Obama will “talk” to the enemy, does not understand what is at stake in our fight against the terrorists and will not defend the country.

All of the above items if protected from the democrats even under McCain are huge steps forward for the conservative movement. We sometimes have to merely prevent the enemy from jumping way ahead in their drive. It is really easy for them when we turn away and give up because we do not like whoever is on the ticket.

Take heart - we will fight in any direction we have to in order to prevent the destruction of this country. But it never comes by giving away what we have already gained.

Just think of this as a battlefield. There are many tactical moves, and often the battle is won by preventing the enemy from gaining their true objective. That objective is to return to power over the GOP and prevent the loss of future elections to the GOP.

Don’t count on me sitting by while they win merely because I did not get a “true” conservative as the leader. We never will have a perfect battlefield, a perfect war, a perfect race - we just ooze forward - an inch here, an inch there.

Another point - when there is only one party it is a lot, lot easier to become a dictatorship. And a dictatorship can mean just having control of the country for 20-30 years.

Remember the long years when the democrats were in control before.

Remember how frustrated most were when Bush, Reagan did not immediately throw out all the non-conservative government programs.

Now how did the democrats get the chance to put those programs in place? Because they had the control of government.

Big IF you've got there. Don't forget that even if McCain should somehow win, he'll be dealing with a DemonRat Congress, composed of his "friends accross the aisle" . You think *they* are going to allow him to appoint anyone more conservative than that other "Maverick", Justice Kennedy?
