Interesting that the document lists his father’s “race” as “African”. To me, “African” is a nationality just like the terms “American”. “French” or “British.” How was race described in 1961?

Since this is a new print from computer records, someone may have done a global replace changing all references of Negro or Colored or Black to African in the database.

Africa is a continent, not a nation. So it does seem a bit odd.

Most documents that I have seen from that era would have described their races as Caucasian and Negro respectively.
