No, you’re right. The phrase is most commonly used when referring to death of a soldier.

I’m just shocked any conservative would suggest that McCain did not pay an ultimate price for freedom, especially as compared to Obama.

I’m even more saddened that out of all the VITALLY IMPORTANT facts in this column, some choose to take issue with this line...

How sad!

Interesting, you say what the word ultimate is used for then you turn around and use it improperly.
