President George W. Bush today announced recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation's highest civil award...."
"General Peter Pace, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), is one of our Nation's most accomplished and respected military officers. His selfless service and visionary leadership have helped keep our Nation safe."

Sometimes the irony just keeps on coming. General Pace for his outstanding contribution and Donna Shalala who said something like, “People go in the military because they’re losers and can’t make it anywhere else in life”. Or something like that.
WTH is Shalala getting on for? I more often than not wonder about GW’s sanity.
And Tom Lantos? It’s good to be a Holocaust survivor, but as a congressman he was one of the worst.
“Lantos was a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus[12] and repeatedly called for reforms to the nation’s health-care system, reduction of the national budget deficit and the national debt, repeal of the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, and has opposed Social Security privatization efforts. He supported same-sex marriage rights and marijuana for medical use, was a strong proponent of gun control[13] and was adamantly pro-choice.[14]”
Actually, she along w/ Bob Dole sat on the Dole-Shalala Commission which made huge and important recommendations for care of returning Wounded Warriors, many of which are fixing the Walter Reed VA debacles

I was hoping that Bush would have the b@ll$ to nominate a great American who has done so much to preserve conservatisim...Rush Limbaugh.
What? He’s not giving one to Valerie Plame or Joe Wilson? Not to Fitzgerald or to Keith Olbermann? Breaking with tradition here.
