BAGHDAD Iraqi National Police and Multi-National Division Baghdad Soldiers seized a number of weapons in Baghdad June 9.
Iraqi National Police from the 4th Brigade, 1st National Police Division found 47 AK-47s, three sniper rifles and a Mauser rifle at approximately 6:30 a.m. in the Ur area of Adhamiyah.
At approximately 10 a.m. north of Baghdad, NPs from 2nd Brigade, 1st NP Div. seized two 155 mm artillery rounds with improvised-explosive device fuses, two 122 mm artillery rounds attached to two propane tanks, four rocket-propelled grenades, an RPG launcher, 21 AK-47s, three SKS rifles, three enfield rifles, a roll of command detonation wire and a tripod.
At approximately 11:15 a.m. in the Shaab area of Adhamiyah, a local Iraqi alerted MND-B Soldiers to a video camera that was filming the area in and around a combat outpost. Soldiers from 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division confiscated the camera and brought it to a MND-B operating base for exploitation.
At approximately 12:05 p.m. in the Neel area of Rusafa, Soldiers from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division were alerted to a weapons cache turned in by several locals and Sons of Iraq (Abna al-Iraq) members from the area. The cache consisted of an improvised explosive device, 80 57 mm anti-aircraft projectiles, 65 81 mm high-explosive mortar rounds, 30 120 mm illumination rounds, 12 60 mm high-explosive mortar rounds, six 81mm illumination rounds, six 61 mm high-explosive mortar rounds, 10 grenades, eight RPGs, four RPG launchers, a 122 mm rocket, a 107 mm rocket, five rocket launchers, five 107 mm rocket motors, eight rocket motors, an anti-personnel mine, and two rocket motor propellant charges.
At approximately 3 p.m., Soldiers from 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, received a tip from a local about a substantial weapons cache northwest of Baghdad and discovered 163 60 mm mortar rounds, 84 82 mm mortar rounds, and 43 81 mm mortar rounds.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., NPs from 5th Brigade, 2nd NP Div. found two 82 mm mortar rounds and three AK-47s in the Risalah area of Rashid.
Soldiers from the same unit along with Soldiers from 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., on a joint dismounted patrol seized 25 60 mm mortar rounds, 19 82 mm mortar rounds, five RPGs, 64 sticks of TNT, a mortar tube, and several fuses at approximately 9 p.m. in the Saydiyah area of Rashid.
A Sons of Iraq (Abna al-Iraq) leader northwest of Baghdad turned in six RPGs, 42 RPG propellant chargers and a SKS rifle to Soldiers from 2nd SBCT, 25th Inf. Div. at approximately 9 p.m.
The Iraqi people themselves are coming forward and making a positive difference in their city and their country by making a statement against violence and terrorism, said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, MND-B and 4th Inf. Div. spokesman.
