Americans fear gas shortages (Open ANWR and Outer Continental Shelf to alleviate the fear)

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- As much as Americans fret over the rising price of gas, one thing worries them more: the possibility of having to wait in long lines to buy rationed gas.

A CNN/Opinion Research poll released Tuesday shows that 55% of those surveyed are more worried about long lines at gas stations and rationing than about the high prices that drivers have paid in recent months. The poll shows 40% of the respondents are more concerned about the high prices.

While gas rationing is not expected at this time, it was a hallmark of the 1970s- era energy crisis, when drivers lined up outside gas stations and sales of gas were limited to certain days of the week.

However, at that time, gas was in short supply, which is not the case today.

The poll shows that 83% of respondents think $4-a-gallon gas is a major problem or a crisis.

That was during the reign of St. Carter (D) The Incompetent.

Once the rats get in, though, we'll be back to gas lines and rationing, just like they used to do in the old USSR.

They don't want to alleviate the fear. They want to create fear. It's political alarmism; it's propaganda terrorism.

The Rats prefer a disgruntled society because they think it helps them politically but I know it’s going to backfire. More and more people are realizing that drilling, for at least the short term, till enough alternative sources are available is the only solution. Most people can’t cut back anymore unless they quit work and most people can’t afford the $5,000-$20,000 cost difference between a regular vehicle and hybrid.

However, at that time, gas was in short supply, which is not the case today.

Just shows you how ignorant the population is about basic economics...including the author of this piece. The lines of the 70's wasn't really a supply issue. It was because Nixon had instituted wage and price controls and markets were not allowed to function. At that time, price was held below the true equilibrium price, which successfully held the price down. The only problem was that you couldn't find enough for sale at that price. The minute the wage and price controls were lifted, the gas lines disappeared.

Moral: Don't screw around with the basic laws of supply and demand.

They know the answer. Most people would be open to the idea if it’s done in an environmentally friendly way.

The only agenda for Republicans this election should be to expose the democrat-caused high energy prices. Let everybody know how their local democrat voted on drilling for our own domestic sources. Let everybody know how their food prices are higher due to failed ethanol-corn policies of the democrats. Let everybody now that their local prices are higher thanks to higher energy prices - all on the back of democrat insistence on sending $700 billion per year for foreign oil to people who want to kill us.

I'm looking for a new job and I can't be that choosy that it has to be 3 miles from home - it's hard enough to find a banking job in this environment!

As far as the other thing...well you also have to consider is the fuel savings even worth the higher cost!

Hussein said we need to drive less. What better way than to ration fuel. I hope the voters realize this in time.

Don’t hold your breath. I can’t fathom why, but the GOP is quiet on the subject. They refuse to fight.

Fight who? Many Republicans are on the same side as the Democrats and fight with them against the interests of U.S. Citizens.
