Excellent poem.
No Punky.
“If you’re over 40, you know what I mean.”
Hear, hear.
I am an under 40 also and actually love they way life is. It is a blast to play with the kids with the new video games and various other stuff they have now. The movies have gotten better for children. They put out a few cartoon one’s yearly. There is plenty of children’s programing that they can watch that give pretty good messages. The only problems I have with children today is that they can’t have peanut butter, sugar and parties at school. Other than that they have it pretty good. My parents were under their desks worried about nukes in their day. Today’s generation is fine. The Gen X’ers are the best of the lot.
Their glamorization of sin is why everyone under 25 has an STD these days.
I was really interested in your post until I got to this stupid sentence. I did not read beyond it.
Most brilliant post of the day. You are right on all counts. I swear people just like to complain. I happen to love the way America is today with regard to your examples.
the 50s was our best era.
I guess you loved the child abuse, wives beaten behind closed doors, drunk driving with no penalties, very low wages for workers. No thank you!!!
My sisters teach public schools. They say that 80 of the teachers are women, and half the remaining men are gay.
Don't reference me as "stupid" for getting angry about the fact that so many people have STDs.

Given how embarrassed today's teenagers may feel about their STDs, many may not even bother reporting them to the medical community.
My sisters teach public schools. They say that 80 of the teachers are women, and half the remaining men are gay.
They should seriously pay teachers more (along with accountability) and they you would see more men in the profession. How on Earth can a guy support a family making 38,000 dollars a year??? It is really impossible.
First. Thank you for your references. I will read them. Second. I did not say your were stupid, just the sentence. Regardless thank you for your post. Very informative.
Young people haven’t the frame of reference with which to judge. Therefore someone who gets beat 4 times daily would consider beatings 2 times daily an improvement.
When teachers produce a better 'product'; we'll talk about a raise. There are PLENTY of people trying to get by on $38,000...guess they aren't the 'chosen ones'...
Teachers are pulling in 50 to 80k.
Principals way above 100 and even over 200K
By my estimation, Massachusetts spends about 20k per student per year, with a 30 to in some schools 50% failure rate.
The high cost, low quality, wrong skilled students....the ‘system’ sucks and they all would be out of jobs in any private sector industry.
By the way Special Forces, Seals, Fighter schools all pay less, demand way more, work way more hours under way worse conditions and have people fighting, literally, to get in.
Basically, real men don't like working around a heavily female and gay population at any price. So, money isn't going to work.
Sending a youg boy into the present 'system' is a form of male abuse.
Viewing the past through rose colored glasses.
Guess ole Dennis never heard of Kitty Genovese.
There have been tragedies in this country since time began.
No country contributes more to the well being of it’s citizens at home and others around the world than the USA.
We have heroes who volunteer for our armed forces.
We have pharmaceutical companies finding cures, devising new operating techniques, etc.
The computer has made it possible to assist the medical profession around the world. Saving countless lives.
We’re not perfect but we can make our part of the world better.
While our government schools are a mess, dumbed down to the lowest common denominator, there are sources of information available to our kids, if only we take the time to do the hard work at home. Pay attention to what their teachers are spewing, be home for dinner and a fun ocnversation about the day with your kids.
Hope this isn’t rambling, but there is no country on earth that is better than AMERICA. It’s up to us to keep it that way.
Skipping out on jury duty is not a great place to start.
Bump from one realistic old man to another.
Was it uphill - both ways?
Nostalgia makes us look at the past through rose colored glasses. The truth is the 1950’s was a very scary and bigoted time.
And where gay relationships are considered 'normal' and part of the 'mainstream' TV audience, like MTV's Tia Tequila, etc.
When I was a boy, I ran after girls during recess, played dodgeball, climbed monkey bars and sat on seesaws.
Last week, my son got written up for 'tagging' his friend 'too hard' at recess. He had touched his friend's lip accidentally because the friend moved and my son lost his grip. Neither the other boy nor his mother thought it was a big deal (the boy didn't even have a 'fat lip'). Our boys will become a Nation of Wussies of we don't let them be who they are -- Boys!
