From the Wonk Room.

This morning, in the only order of business today, the Senate voted 48-36 to filibuster the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act (S. 3036) – 60 votes would have been required to achieve cloture and limit debate. 16 senators – six Democrats and ten Republicans – failed to vote.

The vote was specifically on cloture for Senator Barbara Boxer’s (D-CA) substititute amendment (S.A. 4825) to the bill.

Voting in the affirmative were 39 Democrats, seven Republicans, and two independents (Republicans and independents in ALL CAPS, senators up for re-election in bold, senators retiring in italics): Akaka Baucus Bayh Bingaman Boxer Cantwell Cardin Carper Casey COLLINS Dodd DOLE Durbin Feingold Feinstein Harkin Inouye Kerry Klobuchar Kohl Lautenberg Leahy Levin LIEBERMAN Lincoln MARTINEZ McCaskill Menendez Mikulski Murray Nelson (FL) Nelson (NE) Pryor Reed Reid Rockefeller Salazar SANDERS Schumer SMITH SNOWE Stabenow SUNUNU Tester WARNER Webb Whitehouse Wyden

Voting in the negative were 32 Republicans and four Democrats (Democrats in ALL CAPS, senators up for re-election in bold, senators retiring in italics): Alexander Allard Barrasso Bennett Bond BROWN Brownback Bunning Burr Chambliss Coburn Cochran Corker Crapo Domenici DORGAN Ensign Enzi Grassley Hagel Hatch Hutchison Inhofe Isakson Kyl McConnell JOHNSON LANDRIEU Lugar Roberts Sessions Shelby Thune Vitter Voinovich Wicker

Not voting were six Democrats and 10 Republicans (Democrats in ALL CAPS, senators up for re-election in bold, senators retiring in italics): BIDEN BYRD CLINTON Coleman CONRAD Cornyn Craig DeMint Graham Gregg KENNEDY McCain Murkowski OBAMA Specter Stevens

Biden, Clinton, Coleman, Kennedy, McCain, and Obama submitted statements indicating they would have voted for cloture.

I didn't realize that they had a roll call vote. All the idiots and cowards need to be noted, and marked for political extinction, ASAP IMHO.

I’m surprised Sen. Dole voted for this boondoggle. I guess she has gone over to the dark side too.

No, just returning to her roots:

Dole, who had campaigned for the Kennedy-Johnson presidential ticket in 1960, worked in the White House in the latter years of the administration of Lyndon Johnson.
[edit] Nixon and Ford Administrations
When many Democrats left the White House following Richard Nixon's replacement of Johnson, Dole did not. From 1969 to 1973, Elizabeth Dole served as Deputy Assistant to President Nixon for Consumer Affairs. In 1973, Nixon appointed her to a seven-year term on the Federal Trade Commission. In 1975, she became a Republican.

In 1975, she became a Republican.

Must have been a precondition for the marriage

Dole first met her future husband, Senator Bob Dole in the spring of 1972 at a meeting arranged by her boss and mentor, Virginia Knauer.[2] The couple dated, and she became his second wife on December 6, 1975.

She served as United States Secretary of Transportation from 1983 to 1987 under Ronald Reagan, the first woman appointed to that position.

During her tenure the implementation of the "third eye" brake light on passenger cars was made mandatory. She worked with MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) to pass laws withholding federal highway funding from any state that had a drinking age below twenty-one.

She also "worked with" the Big 3 automakers to pass mandatory seat belt laws withholding blackmailing states with threats of withholding federal highway funding if they refused to institute seat belt laws.

Wasn’t Liddy Dole also involved with the mandatory airbag business? What a freaking nanny.

Yes! That was the “worked with” the Big 3 I referred to.

And a whopping yes to the nanny reference!

I found this article that spells it out pretty well.

Another, more recent article:

And here’s one of her speeches:

She’s a gem!

Pandering to her green weenie constituency, of which there are bunch in this socialist state. It is reelection time for Liddy in November. You will also her hear say we must drill in ANWR and the Gulf of Mexico...but heaven forbid stay away from the continental shelf off of Virginia or NC. Typical liberal/rino attitude. Personally, I think she will be gone in November. Kay Hagen will probably take advantage of the conservative base staying away from Dole.

I don’t know about Senator Elisabeth Dole. She seems to be becoming more liberal with every major piece of legislation before the Senate.

Maybe Bob is talking too much Viagra and keeping her up all night. She certainly seems to be in a fog lately.
