Actor Omar Sharif: "The Middle east Will Never Be Democratized"

Egyptian actor Omar Sharif best known for his film roles in Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago reportedly blasted U.S. policy in Iraq and said Americans are ignorant.
According to The Middle East Media Research Institute, Sharif said the "East" will never have a democracy because people like him "prefer to go to the neighborhood sheik." MEMRI a Middle Eastern press monitoring organization posted an interview of Sharif that aired on the Al-Hayat TV network.

Actually, Americans are just happy with America. It isn't a backward pest-hole like so many Muslim nations and therefore it's inhabitants don't celebrate the day of their adulthood by immediately applying for a passport out of their country like so many Muslims. Something many people in other countries don't understand is just how big the US is. In Europe, a 2 hr drive gets you from Munich to Paris, Amsterdam, maybe Zurich. Here, a 2 hr drive gets you to work. This is what many non-Americans mean by travel - scurrying from one tiny "nation" to another. And this prevents ignorance? Who knew

I thought Iraqis were, as well. Babylon was a Persian city wasnt it??? Originally/ No, it was Babylonian, although it was later conquered and absorbed into the Persian Empire. Were the Babylonians of yore Arab? Not really known...
