"We wear it because we are told that it would be a sin not to cover ourselves -- and because we need to be without sin in order to get close to God. Women, we're told, are a source of enticement to men, and we need to be covered so that men won't desire us."

Proof positive that these people don't believe God had the slightest idea what the hell He was doing when He created the universe.

There's a Zarathustrian fable - of dubious origin - that states it well:

Next the knowing fox, taking up the speech said, What superiority in arts doth man possess? The wise Jewânshîr answered. The superiorly of man consisteth in the good dress, and agreeable food and drink which they formerly had, and at the present time in their covering their obscene parts. The wise fox said, In former times your clothes were of wool, and hair, and skins of animals, and still are so. And your sweetest food is from the vomit of the bee ; And animals do not require any covering for their natural parts ; for all that God requires to be covered, is covered ; And, if it be not, God hath not directed it.

Uhhhh ... Christians and Jews kind of think clothes are important in public. And I'm pretty sure God did have the slightest idea (actually more) when He created the universe. In fact, He did a better job at it than anybody ever has.
