Did they have the kids recite the Shahadah (testimonial of faith in Isalm) or quiz them over the words in it?
I sure hope not. Recite it three times in a row in front of witnesses, and you ARE a Muslim. When I was teaching geography a few years ago, I made that point quite clearly. I'd say it (in English), the kids would ask me to repeat it, and I would, and some joker would ask to repeat it again, and I'd refuse, and tell them why. Again. Ninth-graders are almost ALL smart alecks! ;)
I also explained that in many countries, leaving the faith was a death sentence.
