VAN BUREN - Two brothers are being held after a shootout with a Crawford County man who lawmen said caught them siphoning gas from his vehicle.
Chadrick Holsted, 20, turned himself in about 5 p.m. Tuesday after authorities negotiated his surrender with his father, Chief Deputy Ron Brown said.
His brother, Mark Holsted, was shot in the shoulder and leg late Sunday and was taken to St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday, a nursing supervisor said.
The brothers, of the Rudy area, will be charged with aggravated assault and theft, Brown said. No formal charges were filed as of Tuesday, according to the Crawford County prosecuting attorneys office.
Brown said that about 11:20 p.m. Sunday, the property owner, whom he would not identify, heard movement outside his home in the 12000 block of Old 88 Road near Rudy and went out to investigate. He had a flashlight and a 9mm pistol, Brown said.
Brown said the man had been the victim of several recent gasoline thefts and was watching for thieves.
When the property owner shined his flashlight around his vehicle, he saw two men siphoning gasoline from it, the deputysaid. Mark Holsted had a rifle and pointed it at the property owner, Brown said.
The property owner fired twice at the two men, who fled. Mark Holsted was wounded and made it to the road while his brother picked up the rifle and shot at the property owner at least three times before running into the woods, Brown said.
Brown said authorities searched for Chadrick Holsted for about seven hours but could not find him.

Yep, another normal day in the great state of Arkinsaw!
This will happen more and more often, due to the fact that people are idiots. It may, however, decrease the number of Obama voters.
Pistol wins over rifle?
Something new? Lock you passenger doors. Thieves are now opening doors and grabbing purses while women fill up the tank.
Well, nowadays, siphoning gasoline at today’s prices has probably risen from petty larceny to grand larceny.
I understand the way around that is to drill a hole in the tank. I’m told gasoline tanks aren’t metal anymore so crooks crawl under, drill, drain, and help themselves. My BIL, who is a mechanic, said he’s seeing a rash of tank replacements come into the shop because of this.
The perps lived??? Damn!
Nice shooting there, Tex.
Evidence for the need for gun control.

This is even dumber than stealing copper wire.
Gotta treat “gas rustlers” the same way as “horse rustlers”...
Maybe so but they are out there stealing your gas.. :o
The same BIL had his catalytic converter stolen right out from under his 4Runner, which was parked on the curb at work, and in his line of vision... apparently the curb was enough to conceal the thief. The motivating factor is the price of platinum.

Arkansaw brothers shot while using an “Oklahoma Credit Card!”
Not likely they would steal a converter for the platinum, there is no good way to extract it. They must have needed this particular converter.
I'd watch for a spark from the drill...boom!!
DC,
Did you see the big fish one of our soldiers caught at the TOC this week? If not I’ll email you picture.
