Bob Barr's Libertarian presidential campaign is poised to play a serious role in this year's elections, with early polls showing him taking away enough votes from Sen. John McCain to give Democrats a chance to win states that should be safely Republican.

Barr’s as big a jerk as McCain...worse, McCain never worked for the ACLU. Barr is a bad joke with fat lips.

These states would still be safely Republican if the Republican party had a conservative Republican as the candidate.

Rubbish. Barr is just as relevant/irrelevant as Nader. McCain will win big.

McCain could counter Barr if he would just stop p***ing on the conservative base for the next five months.

I guess the Republicans should consider nominating a small government conservative.

The old white guy voting base must be almost as powerful as the conservative voting base...

I don’t buy it.
First off, Barr is an ACLU whore and might draw as many Naderites as libertarian-conservatives.
Secondly, I don’t see his vote total being any higher than Nader in 2000.
Bottom line - it’s a wash.

McCain has a base? Oh, you must mean the AARP wing of the Global Warming Society for the importation of Mexicans-— that base.
To: skinkinthegrass
Yeah. It’s Barr’s fault that people are not gonna vote for McCain.
You know what your getting from a Rat. Also from McCain.
Aka Amnesty, global warming tax, money for Africa, weak borders. Etc.

As so many McCainiacs on FR are so fond of reminding us...at least he is neither McCain nor Obama, and therefore the lesser of evils.

I’m going to vote for McCain but the day after the election I want to start working on building a credible Conservative Party. There are dozens of GOP Senators and Reps who I would welcome into such a party. That’s where we need to sart. We can’t be another Libertarian Party...we need to start with solid conservative representation in Congress...then we’ll be viable.

I think Obama will win, perhaps easily. McCain is ancient, has no money, no media support, and has alienated the conservative base. Obama is young, charismatic, flush with cash, and backed to the hilt by the media.
