WASHINGTON -- President Bush is congratulating Sen. Barack Obama for clinching the Democratic presidential nomination.

Just don't expect a phone call between the two.

In her morning briefing with reporters, White House press secretary Dana Perino said the president congratulates Obama.

Oh please. If you had been paying any attention over the past 7 years you would know that the press is going to spin everything against him anyway.

Your turn for the poor rebuttal, I suppose. One way to keep the press from spinning this story against him is to have his press secretary toss Obama a congratulation. See how that works, now?

I see. So by taking what was a non story (he didn’t have to get involved at all) and turning it into a story he has somehow protected himself against negative spin from the press. That tells me that he has learned nothing at all about the nature of the media in the 7 years he has been in the White House. It also lends even more credibility to Obama’s claims that he an agent of positive change - “after all, even the Republican president said that my candidacy is historic and a positive for the nation”.

He took a non-story (the first time a black has been nominated to run for President, but I digress), did what he (a politician himself, but I digress) has done all along (graciously compliment the victor of a political competition, but I digress), and gets a positive story out of it in the press (despite the wailing, gnashing of teeth, and rending of garments on FR, but I digress).

Does that about cover it?

McCain had done more to destroy the republican party than anyone else could have hoped to. In his hateful vengeance toward President Bush for defeating his presidential aspirations eight years ago, the little ratbasturd set up his own shadow government to undermine President Bush every step of the way.

POS (President of Shame) "Mission Accomplished" Bush has done more to destroy GOP hopes and aspirations than anyone in party history, IMO. While John McCain was being tortured in a Hanoi hell hole, Bush was yukking it up with parties and we know this for a fact because he's admitted it and there is a DUI conviction to prove it...add to that fact, Scott McClellan's book about him is at least true in one respect "heh, we had some pretty wild parties back then so I can't remember whether I snorted cocaine or not..."
Can't remember?
Also, his Air Guard record, Dan Rather and CBS false reporting aside, is spotty at best because there is absolutely no record of his last two years of obligated service.
His mismanagement of Iraq, when we could have/should have used overwhelming force to put down any insurgency and gain control of any WMDs mysteriously disappearing is an outright disgrace.
Add to that: Brownie doing a "heckuva job," "Harriet Myers," "Bahrain Ports," "No Child Left Behind," "Stemcell research halt," and he stands just a bit above Clinton and Carter in my estimation.
