French screen icon Bardot fined for anti-Muslim remarks

France's 1960s screen icon Brigitte Bardot received a 15,000-euro (23,000 dollar) fine on Tuesday for inciting hatred against Muslims.

In December 2006, the film star-turned-animal rights activist wrote a letter to France's then interior minister, current President Nicolas Sarkozy, arguing that Muslims should stun animals before slaughtering them during the Aid al-Kabir holiday.

She outraged anti-racist groups by saying: "I've had enough of being led by the nose by this whole population which is destroying us, (and) destroying our country by imposing their ways."

Bardot, now 73 and suffering from arthritis, was absent from Tuesday's court hearing in Paris. She wrote to the court saying: "I'm sickened by how (these organisations) are harassing me."

She added: "I will not shut up until stunning is carried out" on animals before their ritual slaughter.

Bardot already has four convictions on similar charges. In 2004 she was fined 5,000 euros for inciting racial hatred in her book "Un Cri Dans le Silence" (A Cry in the Silence).

France is home to Europe's largest Muslim community, estimated at five million people.

She appears to have more wisdom than the entire French government.

She is completly right but french justice is owned by a bunch of liberals very soft with criminals above all when they are immigrants and very agressive when caucasian french people make a single remark.
In that case it was not at all a matter of racism as she criticized some barbarian muslim customs against animals(throat cutting of sheeps)

as she criticized some barbarian muslim customs against animals(throat cutting of sheeps)

They show no sympathy for humans either. Death and violence is their religion.

Sura (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution of Muslims is worse than slaughter of non-believers...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."

Sura (5:33) - "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement"

Sura (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"

Bukhari (52:177) - Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

Tabari 7:97 The morning after the murder of Ashraf, the Prophet declared,"Kill any Jew who falls under your power."

Ibn Ishaq: 327 - “Allah said, ‘A prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the religion.’”

She is right, but in France there is no “freedom of speech.” Or none if it is against Muslims. What if she had made these comments about Jews or Christians? IMO, nothing much would have happened. and Bush and Condi Rice will not be screaming about changing France's oppressive government.

Yeah — but wasn’t she only complaining about how they treat yummy lambs (i.e. they eat them — and rightly so!)? Not how they treat people?

*If* so, IN THIS, she was wrong, Islam was right. She picked the wrong battle.

The French do not have a First Amendment. Like the Canadians, they have a lot of touchy-feely regulations that make it illegal to offend one another. Unfortunately, how do you talk about Islam without being offensive? The Muslims are using these laws to silence any opposition.

Bardot is a whack job animal rights activist, of course. Of all reasons to oppose the Islamic takeover of France, the ritual slaughter of sheep is way, way, way down on my list. But I support her right to speak out. The French really need to get rid of these silly laws and let people be as offensive as they like.

Oh, and Bardot is, obviously, Not-Guilty-For-Life.

This story was a bit shocking to me when I saw it on Breibart earlier. I couldn't figure why she was being fined tens of thousands especially since the statement was made in a letter to a public official. Of course the answer is this: it's France.

As someone says up thread, Canada too has these sorts of "Free Speech" laws which remind me of where some want to take "Hate Crime" statues in this country.

What a HORRIBLY repressive thing it must be to not to be free in speaking one's mind for fear of gov't finds. We're fortunately to have a Bill of Rights that protects free speech such as this. For now, anyway.

No, it does not.

Don't look now but it is in the gun sights of the left here. As a matter of fact try exercising it on any college campus here in the states and you will find it is a limited right at best. Its time to take out the trash.
