Remember all of the insider books written about Bill Clinton, like Unlimited Access and Dereliction of Duty, to name two. Why didn’t they get all the hype and free promotion by the MSM? Another example of the media manipulating the news to serve its agenda.
I ordered Feith's book last evening due to
Christopher Hitchens' Review of the two books. Hitchens was far less charitable than Noonan toward McClellan's useless tirade, largely I suspect because Noonan has never been able to overcome her well-known dislike of GW Bush. That is, I suspect, the reason she feels such things are so "necessary," and not for any particular high-minded striving for historical verisimilitude.
Feith's book, by all accounts, will make uncomfortable reading for readers on all sides of the Iraq debate who have settled into their own private narratives. That is also as it should be. He was there, he recorded, he relates, and it isn't, again by all accounts, entirely flattering either to himself or to the others involved. Looking forward to reading it.
If Jesus came forth and said I know the truth about Iraq, people would still believe McClellan's account over his. There is no use arguing when people have invested their emotions to the point it derails their thinking. The first indication of the overt politics involved is the NY Times refusal to review Feith’s book. Noonan doesn't mention this and a great number of other searing questions any competent and objective reporter would naturally bring up. She doesn't and that speaks volumes against her.
