Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, based on an Associated Press tally of convention delegates, becoming the first black candidate ever to lead his party into a fall campaign for the White House.
Campaigning on an insistent call for change, Obama outlasted former first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in a historic race that sparked record turnout in primary after primary, yet exposed deep racial divisions within the party.
The AP tally was based on public commitments from delegates as well as more than a dozen private commitments. It also included a minimum number of delegates Obama was guaranteed even if he lost the final two primaries in South Dakota and Montana later in the day.
The 46-year-old first term senator will face Sen. John McCain of Arizona in the fall campaign to become the 44th president.

You’re right but everyone knows that by this time tomorrow, Obama will be taking a lot of SPD (Super Politican Delegates) and will easily be over the top.
AP is merely taking the needed unannounced ones to slam it up Shrillary’s arse.
Objective journalism and all, don’t ya know.
That’s irony for you.
With the elite Democrats is a situation of do as I say --> only I can do as I do.
All-American Democrats have not caught on to the fact that the Democrat Party has been hijacked by the communists, marxist, eco-terrorists, etc. who now call themselves the Democratic Party.
They've labeled their followers * progressives * BUT there is NOTHING progressive about taking America back to racism as we've all witnessed during the Democratic Primary.
According to rumor, Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos has been the vehicle that kept the Hildabeast going. That is, he encouraged the Republicans and Independents who listen to him to vote for Hildabeast. Whether they did or not...shrug...
But looking on the bright side --> Hope the Hildabeast is finished tonight.
If John McCain picks someone who'd be dynamite with the economy then he's a shoe-in.
Obama can be beat... and I don't think we've even seen the tip of the iceberg on scandals associated with him and his wife (who, by the way, appears to be a psycho).
That makes no sense at all. Why would the Dems make Hillary the nominee because of something the Reps released? Wouldn't the Dems resist having the Reps select their nominee?
In any event, the Dems are stuck with Obama. There is no way that the Dems can throw Obama under the bus at this stage no matter what his wife might say on the tape, if it exists. Blacks are their most loyal constituency. "Stealing" the nomination from the black guy will have far reaching consequences not only for this election but for many more to come. The Dems want to be the home party for all minorities who will be the majority by 2050. Far better to lose this election than jeopardze their future prospects.
For now, the Dems are between a Barack and a hard place.
Assuming his campaign doesn't have any surprises which would force the superdelegtes (aligned or not) to vote for Hillary at the convention. He's the "presumptive" nominee barring any "surprises".
So they are calling it based on a pre-vote poll?
They could have done that in October if all they needed was a poll and no actual votes.
Do you have your nose up your butt so far that all you can see is brown? Idiot! Think about it? As long as the bloody fight between the two depressingly dweeb RATS go on for the primary, the more money they have to spend. The more money spent the less the campaigns have to spend on the general.
Sorry about that. I want to correct myself. The tape of Obama saying "White folks greed runs a world in need" is at Power Line.
Power Line
Wow, nice comeback.
Hmmm, nose up my butt.... No, can’t say it’s up there. On the other hand, I can bl*w myself.
LOL!
You sound like you have a great sense of humor. Considering what’s before us as voters, we all need a sense of humor. Hats off to ya. :)
