SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Hillary Clinton won the Democratic presidential primary in Puerto Rico on Sunday, and is expected to return to the mainland with a purseful of delegates.

But lower-than-expected turnout could hamper her camp’s efforts to argue she can attract enthusiastic general election voters and is the better candidate than Barack Obama in the fall race against presumptive Republican nominee John McCain.

Puerto Rico’s role was enhanced in the Democratic primary election process this year as its 55 delegates are a critical chunk in the remaining three contests in a marathon primary season that has yet to crown a nominee.

Returns were expected to come in slowly but some pre-vote estimations had Clinton winning about 35 of the total delegates to Obama’s possible 20.

The largely symbolic vote comes with only two contests left on the calendar — Montana and South Dakota, which both vote Tuesday.

“We’re going to win big here today,” Clinton’s campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe predicted.

Turnout could also be less than what Clinton had hoped for — 300,000 to 400,000, rather than the 500,000 to 600,000 that had originally been projected. Kenneth McClintock, the Puerto Rico Senate president, said that he was hearing late reports that voting had picked up. He said 20 percent turnout would be about 460,000 voters.

“We had a very slow start in the morning, but it seems like it’s picking up...

Harold Ickes demeaner yesterday at the committee meeting did not reflect well on Hillary. He was rude and acted like he was totally p**sed off. He also wore a wrinkled old shirt, with the top buttons unbuttoned. All the other men were nicely dressed in suits and ties. His whole presentation and appearance was that of a thug or bully. Is this the image Hillary wants to show people?

Hillary’s team shows they want to fight and all that, but at what point does fighting for your side give way to bullying and intimidation and threats?

And I expect Harold Ickes to say that the Puerto Rico vote shows how Hillary is the strongest candidate. Puerto Rico doesn’t even get to vote in general elections, but they will add her votes in Puerto Rico to the popular vote to show she wins the alleged nationwide popular vote. This in turn gives them ammunition to take this thing all the way to the convention.

The ratings for the Denver convention might be higher than recent years, since we don’t know what the Clintons may do. I hope to see Bill Clinton turn purple on national television ranting and raving about this and that.

Well at least we were spared Hillary’s rehearsed lines about how “The road to the White House runs through (fill in the blank for name of state she is in)”, and how she expects to carry that state in the general election.

Hectoring her husband into pardoning the Puerto Rican terrorists 8 years ago is paying dividends today. But, watch out, his de facto support of terrorism will come back and bite his wife upon her gigantic ass.

"Win Likely Won't Propel Candidac"

Maybe not a Candidac, but it may still propel a 1987 Yugo.

If PR cannot vote in the General Election, why do they even get any participation in the Primary?

I am confused. Please advise.

Did Hillary clone all of her male weasels? Ickes, Stephanopolous, Reich...all 5 feet tall and pathetic. Maybe she just wanted to be sure she could beat the crap out of anybody who spoke out of turn.

In fact the projection was over one million voters in Puerto Rico. Anyway it would not matter even if it was 2 millions voters and Hillary Clinton net gain is 1 million votes in Puerto Rico. This will have zero impact on the race. Very few Super Delegates will stop for even a second and reflect on Hillary Clinton win in a territory that do not vote in Presidential and Congressional elections.

It is over. Obama is the democrat nominee and John McCain is the next President.

It is critical to Iraq Victory that Obama be nominated so that McCain defeats him.

There is entirely too much over-extended talk about “CHAOS”. That process, whatever it was, is done. No further risks to Obama’s nomination should be taken, and any further work should focus on keeping Hillary off the ticket — which should keep her supporters home.

At whatever point necessary if your name is Clinton.
