These honor killings seem to defy how we expect humans to behave. The normal reaction we would expect from a father is for him to be angry at the boyfriend rather than at his daughter.

That reaction would make sense if the father views his daughter as his daughter. But what if the father views his daughter as something more -- then all of the sudden these honor killings start to make sense in terms of human nature.

The primary emotion no longer is shame, but jealousy. I wonder how often in these situations something much more perverse is going on under the cover of the father upholding 'family honor'.
