In a painful episode of his quest for the White House, likely Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama said Saturday his family withdrew their membership at Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ.
The damage control came as his church -- and controversial sermons from the Trinity pulpit -- were increasingly becoming a target that threatened Obama's presidential bid.
A source in the Obama campaign said Obama had been having conversations with Moss for weeks over his concerns that the scrutiny the church was experiencing because of his candidacy was causing problems -- and that Trinity should not provide a platform for inflammatory rhetoric, which is exactly what happened last Sunday.

At first glance I thought that said Moses.
Gadzooks! And he wants to talk to Iran's Ahmadinejad, Syria's al-Asad, Venezuela's Chevez, North Korea's Kim Il-sung and the head honchos of Hezbollah and Humas? If he cannot get his own preacher to stop preaching racism, then how is he going to get the world's bad guys to do doodley squat?
However, the culture war goes one:
Did you hear his taunt of Sean Hannity from the pulpit a few weeks ago? My guess is that he’ll have an even bigger taunt next Sunday.

Can you imagine this sentence if it had been McCain? Instead of “painful” it would have been “shameful” or “obviously politically motivated”.
My local sunday Sacramento Bee had the story buried (I saw it in a store-I don’t want to contribute to the DNC by buying the paper).
Shame on the MSM! I now despise them worse than trial lawyers.
