Police discover 17 Asian illegals in La Joya[South Texas]

LA JOYA - Police turned 17 undocumented immigrants believed to be from China over to officals from the U.S. Border Patrol earlier today.

Officers responded to a call just after 8 a.m. about reported suspicious activity near the corner of Ebony Street and Palm Avenue, just blocks south of U.S. Highway 83, police spokesman Officer Joe Cantu said.

When they arrived, police found 15 people believed to be from China who could not speak English nor Spanish, Cantu said.

There were 10 men and five women crowded inside a red Chevrolet Suburban, he said. They appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s, he said.

A witness told police that six others fled the scene before officers arrived. About 11 a.m., a La Joya Police officer spotted two other Asian men walking along the highway, buying a watermelon, Cantu said. Those men were also taken into custody, he said.

All 17 immigrants were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol for processing, Cantu said.

"These people were in bad shape," Cantu said. "They just looked exhausted."

Okay, it’s too simple: “17 down, ten million or so to go....”

Reagan didn't throw those who escaped communist tyranny back over the wall to the wolves. i wonder how elian is enjoying the cuban paradise?

mexicans come here to work and exploit the liberal policies of our country.

while i'm not defending their actions related to coming here illegally, they are/were escaping a murderous totalitarian regime.

more facts are needed here imho. -flame suit enabled>

thats not what i'm saying. are you saying that you would toss someone back over the berlin wall because he/she was attempting to escape a murderous communistic regime?

Reagan didn't think so, and nor do i. all of the chinese, japanese and korean immigrants i have met are productive citizens. granted, these were illegal immigrants -but i feel their plight warrants further examination.

they most assuredly will be jailed, tortured, or worse if they are returned to china.

maybe canada will accept them?

just so we're clear, the southern border should be shut down to all illegals attempting to cross.

Das Berlin Wall no longer exists and really had nothing — albeit Reagan’s brilliance using it as a metaphor — to do today with America’s security: the Mexican/American border does. Either enforce our border/immigration laws or decriminalize it, but DO SOMETHING other than NOTHING. And don’t give me that “throw them back over the wall” crap.

"...don’t give me that “throw them back over the wall” crap."

what is your proposal?

i used the wall as a metaphor, just as churchill described russia as an "iron curtain." will you dismiss churchill's description because you cannot find a swath of material made from iron, isolating the people of the former ussr from the outside world?

Love the launcher, but I’ve been asked a proposal. How about:

We (aka “Americans”) go wherever they are coming from so they can have here and we can have there.

Would that satisfy your freedom loving soul?

what i am saying is that there is a difference between someone trying to come here to make more money and someone attempting to escape a murderous totalitarian regime. there are grey areas in life.

p.s. the berlin wall still does exist -only in little chunks available on ebay. (or an occasional monument in berlin). ;)
