Rev. Michael Pfleger's face is well-known in the Chicago area, one of the many iconoclastic characters who inhabit a city with a long history of racial division and political activism.
So while his latest controversial statements may not be overly surprising here, they have generated another national firestorm for Sen. Barack Obama, whose campaign has been left shaking its collective head over how the presidential candidate could be embroiled in yet another flap involving his South Side church.
Pfleger, who has had numerous run-ins with Chicago's Roman Catholic archdiocese involving his political activism, mocked Sen. Hillary Clinton from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ last weekend. As he stood as a guest speaker, the priest suggested the former first lady is a white elitist who felt entitled to the Democratic nomination.
In doing so, the otherwise politically astute and street-savvy priest reignited a debate about Obama's church that had nearly quieted down after controversial remarks by Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. surfaced earlier this spring.
The Internet video of his appearance emerged as Obama's campaign was preparing for Saturday's meeting in Washington, where a Democratic Party rules committee is set to deliberate the fate of delegates elected in January primaries in Michigan and Florida that violated party rules.
Seeking to divert attention from the Pfleger story, Obama's campaign on Friday aggressively engaged Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, over Iraq policy and troop levels there.
A campaign aide also confirmed that Obama plans to travel to St. Paul for a Tuesday evening rally, where he is expected to essentially claim a Democratic nomination victory following the last primaries in Montana and South Dakota. The capital of Minnesota, a battleground state, will co-host this summer's Republican National Convention.

All the pundits try to disassociate Obama from the wild statements coming out of his church. They always conveniently overlook the fact that Obama has been reveling in that kind of bilge for twenty years and raising his family in a cauldron of hate.
You really have to give credit to the Mainstream Media. This is going to be the first time in recorded history that the party in the White House has been put on the defensive for pursuing a policy in which a war was won.
Senator Obama is in serious trouble. As a Catholic, I hope the Bishop and Archbishop have a long chat with Father Pfleger. This type of rhetoric is unacceptable and does not belong in a sacred and solemn church.
LOL. Simply astonishing, isn’t it?
Pfleger was all over tv, defending the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and we heard about his left wing politics at that time. Why is it such a surprise, now? He even mentioned at that time that he occasionally was a guest preacher at Trinity. It just bugs me that FOX news (I think that it was Greta) thought that Pfleger was a valid spokesperson to defend Obama and Wright, at that time. She sure didn’t approve this time.
Sen. Dick Durbin, an Obama mentor, condemned Pfleger’s words in a meeting with Tribune editors and reporters and said they were not helpful in trying to discuss race nationwide.
“I like Mike. He’s my friend,” Durbin said. “But he went overboard.”
This man is a disgrace to the US Senate. He said our troops were like Nazi’s and now he defends this moron. I can’t believe the people of Illinois put up with him.
It is actually possible that Obama thinks that most normal people are like the freaks, commies, and guilty whites that he’s been surrounded by his whole life.
In a way this election is going to be good for the country... It is exposing some putrid sides of society that have been festering out of sight of most americans. Shining the spotlight on them and airing out these festering sores called Wright and Pfleger and Co. can’t help but be good for society.
I’m sure there are a lot more of them. We need an enterprising reporter (or a team of them) going around the country, attending various “places of worship” and broadcasting the sermons to the rest of us. I’m sure the preachers, priests and imams wouldn’t mind sharing their spiritual guidance to as many as possible.
And that goes for classrooms as well.
The only conclusion I can reach in this business is that this church has it in for Obama.
We hate him, but just can’t seem to outvote all those dead people up north.
Great group of friends the left-wing radical, extremist Obama keeps. /s
Obama and his evil friends are a disgrace to all Americans.
“I cant believe the people of Illinois put up with him.”
Those of us who did not vote for the SOB don’t put up with him. We pretty much ignore him. He is about as meaningful and relevant as belly button lint.
Once again Barry Hussein has known someone for 20 years and been clueless as to the guys thinking (if you want to call it thinking). Why in the hell would he want to meet with Amedinejhad? He wouldn’t remember anything about it 5 minutes later!
So Pfleger put Barry Hussein in an “unwelcome spot...” Obama had nothing at all to do with it. Remind anybody of poor Curly? A victim of coikumstance!
What makes you think that they actually disapprove of Rev. Feltcher, er, Pfleger's actions?
