Yes, that is sad, for if ones greatest virtue is tolerance, then one has no others.

But, I remember some speculation that with the new Pope would come stricter guidelines, back to basics? (I'm not saying it right, but you know what I mean?)

Did that ever happen to any great extent?

When Pope Benedict was a Cardinal, he did have a reputation of a staunch traditionalist. Here in Chicago, the local Catholics don’t take Pope Benedict seriously. They consider him to be an interim Pope. They are praying for the next Pope to upgrade the Church.
