Obama’s political opportunism is coming home to roost
The Walker County Messenger ^ | May 11, 2008 | Larry Brooks

Anyone who has followed the Rev. Jeremiah Wright story saw nothing new from the pastor of Barack Obama when he addressed the National Press Club last week.

Honestly, the comments Wright made were rather mild when compared with similar ones he has made from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ — again, the point being there was nothing new from his performance.

The real surprise was witnessed at the press conference following Wright’s appearance when Obama finally threw his preacher underneath the bus. Or, was it Wright who threw Obama underneath the bus? Regardless, Obama came to the conclusion that Wright’s words of hate no longer represented him.

Whatever a person might think of Wright, at least he has the courage to stand up for what he truly believes and for what he thinks. This certainly is more than can ever be said for Obama.

Obama stated, “The person we saw yesterday is not the person I met 20 years ago.” Really? What changed? It certainly wasn’t Wright. The tapes don’t lie.

The dirty little secret is that Wright is exactly the same person. Wright presented himself honestly. It is Obama who is misrepresenting himself to the public.

Obama has stood by Wright and his rhetoric of hate for 20 years. And now, suddenly, he is surprised by the remarks of his preacher?

It seems it took a presidential campaign, with all eyes upon him, for him to come to this conclusion.

Obama is purely a politician. He holds the philosophy of doing whatever it takes to get elected. Obama has used Wright and his church of discontent as long as they were politically beneficial to him and his political career. When he was trying to get elected as a senator in Illinois he positioned himself with Wright to win the black vote. Now, he needs to build a consensus vote to win in the general election for president and Wright is anything but a consensus-builder.

Folks, we are now witnessing Obama’s political opportunism coming back home to roost.

His negatives are beginning to parallel that of Clinton’s. He should have won the vote in Indiana because it is so close to his home state of Illinois, but these people who are more than familiar with him rejected him and voted for Clinton.

If anyone thought McCain’s hope of winning this race was over, think again.

Regardless of whoever finally captures the Democratic nomination, the Republican possibility for president is a very likely one.

Although McCain seems reluctant to compete in this race, it looks like the Democratic train may derail before the November vote.

Whether Clinton chooses to leave the race now or in June, Obama’s chances of victory in November are looking less likely with each passing day.

How much more will the public learn of Obama’s opportunism before November? Time will be the judge. But the rumors floating out there now suggest Wright is only the beginning of the derailment of the Obama campaign.

But for now, hats off to Rev. Wright!

Mr. Brooks is no David Limbaugh, Charles Krauthammer or George Will, but he makes some good points: John McCain is one of the luckiest men alive, as Barack Obama's mask is slipping as we speak. Will it fall off in time? Hard to say. What do you think?

We have a far better shot at winning the POTUS race if Obama survives the primary.

There’s no way that the Democrats are going to give it to Hillary. It would tear the Democrat Party in two. It’s better to for them lose an election flat out to Republicans and cast the blame at white conservatives.

Which is exacly what Wright said out loud repeatedly at the press club and the reason Obama disowned him.

Oddly, CNN did a nice hit piece on Obama last night. It showed how sleezy Obama was in winning his office in Illinois. What a back-stabbing weasel Obama really is. Obama won his first race by sending a team of lawyers and challenging signatures. Obama’s lawyers successfully removed over half the names on his opponents petitions and got them throw off the ballot on technicalities. One of his opponents was a good friend who encouraged Obama to seek office. Obama ended up winning because he ran unopposed in the Democrat primary.

The sleaziest part was that they deliberately did it close to the deadline so there would be no time to cure the problem.

The phrase "over half" bothers me. Is this typical for petitions, or is it just Chicago? Seems like a huge number.

This article is 3 weeks old and full of nothing. Bush is so unpopular and dispiriting to his base , that I think a bag of laundry could beat McCain. And thats without even going into McInsane’s many flaws.

I wouldn't count on that if I were you!

The BOC (bag-o-crap) Obama is a candidate that McCain will beat like a drum, IMO! The Obama skeleton closet has only been slightly opened, soon enough we will see the really good stuff!

There were so many rules, it was easy to disqualify half. Rules such as weather the person printed his name or wrote it in cursive was enough for the name to be disqualified. There were also very specific requirements for people collecting petitions, so whole groups of signatures were thrown out because of something wrong that person did.
