I did that trip on a 3 day out of Luke and it was remarkable. Getting to Bryce Canyon from Capitol Reef was an adventure on its own. The overlook onto the “Dirty Devil” was very impressive. They had an example of formation and it was the Smokies. I was surprised.

You probably went down Highway 12...which has been voted the most Beautiful drive for the last 30 years at least. There are some great hikes off that road.
