The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit seeking to force Denver officials to reveal what type of police equipment they're buying for the Democratic National Convention in August.
The suit was filed on Wednesday in Denver District Court. Citing state open-records laws, it asks for budget and spending information dating from January 2007, when the city was chosen as the site of the convention.
City officials have declined to release many details, citing security concerns.
Denver and St. Paul, Minn., site of the Republican National Convention, will each get up to $50 million from the federal government for convention security.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper's office has said the city plans to spend about half of that on equipment and the rest on personnel.
Why does ACLU need to know in advance?
What if the DNC is bringing in a heat ray projector for “crowd control”? That would be amusing.
Back to ACLU- once they get the list of equipment, I bet they ask for tactical planning too, and somehow this will get back to recreate68. Along with freqs, codes, signals, deployment, lists of names...
Stall.
Why would anyone trust the ACLU with sensitive information like that? Why, that could be a blueprint for insanity and chaos to take over the conven....
Oh, wait...
The weapons and equipment will be used after the ruling class leaves those towns to suppress the citizens.
We just had to endure a virtual shutdown of Albuquerque while G.W. Bush made a 2 hour appearance at a fundraiser for some sorry-a$$ cop running for an open House of Representatives seat.
$300,000 +/- was raised.
The lost productivity resulting from the rest of the sorry-a$$ cops doing what they do during such an excuse (or any excuse for that matter) was easily 100 times that amount.
These people are supposed to be working for us, not the opposite.
If these people had to hold their conventions in an open field, they might be more responsive to their employers once they get into office.
Please buy lots of full automatic weapons and shoot hippies on sight.
