The reason some California Republicans got so upset with Gov. Wilson's McClintock comments is they are to close to home and contain a lot of truth.
State Senator Tom McClintock is the California lite version of John McCain. McClintock has often been at odds with the state Republican Party and other Republicans in the state legislature.

Wilson never cared one lick for the party, state, or city, only what was good for Pete Wilson.
I spent 18 years fighting that POS on the floor of the RSCC conventions.

That’s a crock of c**p, Chuck!
McClintock has consistently been one of THE most conservative elected politicians in CA for years! In a party of wussie RINOs (a self-cancelling phrase if there was one), McClintock is a star shining bright and should be Governor, but I’ll take him as a Congressman.

With all due respect...what I gathered about McClintock while in
Los Angeles during 1995 to 2005 is...
That if McClintock was the California-lite version of McCain,
the guy who replaced Gov. Gray Davis might have been Tom McClintock.
Not the real California-lite version of John McCain: Arnold.
McClintock has often been at odds with the state Republican Party

There's a reason McClintock was/is at odds with the state Republican
Party. He's a conservative. Not just a "Republican".
