Posted: 2:11 PM- The moment demanded a Raymond Burr flourish: Still reeling from an appeals court ruling that cracked the foundation of the largest child welfare case in the country, Texas attorneys produced a photo just this side of kiddy porn - a lanky Warren Jeffs kissing a tiny, flat-chested girl "how a husband would kiss a wife."
That kind of courtroom drama only happens on "Perry Mason" or in a John Grisham novel. And Judge Barbara Walther, Texas Child Protective Services and state attorney Ellen Griffith got the gut-churning change of subject they wanted - Ewww! The 2006 photo became proof positive, according to Griffith et al., of Texas CPS' claims that a "pervasive" system of child abuse exists on the Yearning For Zion Ranch, that each of the 450 children bused to shelters and foster homes throughout Texas were at risk.
Legal debate shifted once again from the micro to the macro, from individual families to the communal ranch. Texas' argument is much easier to make when polygamist families are lumped into one crowd of pod people.
And Louisa and Dan Jessop helped make the state's case.
In the custody hearing for their newborn son, the new mother couldn't remember who lives in her house on the ranch. Even confronted with the photos, she said Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is "perfect" in her eyes. The father, one of the young bride's many brothers, argued one kiss does not equal sexual abuse. Outside court he suggested the photo had been doctored. If the Jessops' stomachs didn't flip after looking at that picture, something is terribly wrong. More practically, this is not the best way to get your kids back. The Jessops did - temporarily. But they were lucky.
FLDS spokesmen Rod Parker and Willie Jessop can howl about showboating. Attorneys can debate Texas' "guilty-by-association" strategy. The photos are as "relevant as using a compromising photo of the parish priest to take the children of all the parishionerrs," University of Richmond law professor Carl Tobias wrote in an email to Tribune reporter Brooke Adams. Tobias called them a "sleazy" attempt to shape public opinion. But in the end, if the Texas parents have any hope of regaining custody of their children, they will have to reject Warren's way of doing things. Whether their statements in court were the result of honest ignorance or deliberate obfuscation, the Jessops and other YFZ polygamists have to realize Texas' case rests on one thing - a pattern of older men marrying young girls. Defending the imprisoned prophet won't help them now |

Thanks - interesting move from the TX SC.
“SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Texas Supreme Court has asked attorneys representing nearly three dozen mothers from a polygamous sect to answer the state’s bid to overturn an order returning their children.
The supreme court was already considering the narrow issue of whether to stay the ruling, which was issued a week ago by the Third Court of Appeals. It found a trial judge improperly kept some 450 FLDS children in state custody.”
It seems that they are on the fence.

Thank you. Man, he is such a PIG!!! Yuck! They’re just little girls. Heck, my sister was still playing with dolls at 13! These girls look about 10!

I just finished reading the book “Escape” by Carolyn Jessop. It is chilling to read and see how a cult can brainwash people so completely. It’s all about sex, power and control. Quite the amazing book.

Oh my goodness, I wish I hadn’t clicked on that link. Those girls are nothing but children, and their false prophet is nothing but a pervert. I can’t get over how young those kids look. My fantasy is for some of these horny old FLDS goats to meet up with the cops from Law & Order-SVU.

I’ve seen her on several interviews, and one documentary on WE Network with her cousin, Flora. Incredible people, amazingly brave. I wish everyone could read her book and/or see her interviews.

Now that would be justice. Those are some of the most disturbing photos I’ve ever seen.

I heard “well he’s in jail”...but read what the FLDS women fighting for their children say about him.

But why would they question Joseph Smith ?

Having seen whats at that link I reiterate.
TX should not be criticized for having the courage to step into what was sure to be a mess and trying to put an end to this bunch of polygamous pedophiles.
The only criticism that could be leveled at TX is that they have not yet hung all the adult males and half the adult women.
Adults are responsible for what they do and anyone involved in an organization where this goes on especially in the open by the leaders is not someone we need consuming oxygen on this planet.

It was posted yesterday but the thread was pulled. You might want to run it by the mods first. They may want us sticking with links to protect the kids. The problem is that it really doesn’t hit you in the face until you see their young faces.

These children may still be dominated by the sect but then again I think many will never be the same again. Here is a snip from another article about the group up in Abilene.
........Community groups, such as Beltway Baptist Church, which donated bicycles for all the children, have reached out to help Hendrick. Bike riding is fast becoming the children's favorite activity. Never having ridden before, after two days, they mastered riding the new bikes.
In the afternoon, they play games in the gym and are only allowed to watch Animal Planet on TV. ...........
Bikes and Animal Planet will soon be expanded into other things...... imo.
