Basic gun safety. Always keep a gun unloaded until it is ready to use. Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons. Anyone with even the most basic NRA or gun safety training knows this.
Placing a loaded gun under your pillow is idiotic to say the least and something one should only see in the movies. This shows disgregard for firearms safety and his son's life.
Huh??
An unloaded gun is as good a bladeless parring knife with a broken handle. Especially when it is two AM and there is an intruder comming through your window.
Of course the safety issue is real but the bigger issue I think, just because it a stupid thing to do, it is not against the law to be stupid.
Owning a gun and teaching your son firearms proficiency is legal, practicing survivalist skills is legal and so is stockpiling food. Also reading books about how to make a bomb or a rocket is legal.
The only thing this guy seems to have done is to possess chemicals that when combined, could explode which may or may not be legal.
This article take a lot of legal activities and mixes them up into and article that paints these behaviors paint them with a negative brush.
And another thing, the NRA is not the sole authority all things gun.
>Basic gun safety. Always keep a gun unloaded until it is ready to use. Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.<
You would most certainly mess your underwear if you came to my home. There is a loaded gun in every room, including the garage, where my wife or I spend a substantial amount of our time. You do have to know where to look for them because they are not sitting out collecting dust but the weapon is available quickly, should the need arise.
What is not common in our home is unauthorized person(s). We are selective on whom we invite to stay with us because of this fact. If I or my wife think there is any chance you will are the type to do unauthorized snooping when the door is closed we simply don’t invite you to inside the front door.
Our last visitor left a box of Federal Premium .357’s on the nightstand. Freepers can be so forgetful.
An unloaded gun is never ready to use, unless you want to use it as a club.
Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.
Keeping it under one's pillow should ensure that it is inaccessible to unauthorized persons.
When authorities searched the man’s home, they also found his 12-year-old son sleeping with a loaded handgun under his pillow and another within reach, county police said.
If the boy had been properly trained, they would have found him firing a loaded handgun at armed intruders. I don't keep mine under my pillow, but it is within easy reach. Armed intruders, take note.
“Always keep a gun unloaded until it is ready to use.”
Nonsense. An unloaded gun is useless except as a club.
I have often kept a loaded pistol under the pillow. Granted it was a single-action semi-auto that had to be cocked first.
The NRA makes a lot of PC noises to try to look “less evil” to the MSM. Lot of good that’s done, eh?
