Why can't a reporter ask what the Uncle's name was, what unit he served with and, especially, where he lived following discharge. Staying in the attic for six months is unusual behavior. Someone in a small town would remember whether it's true or not. Also,social security records would reveal whether the uncle worked during this period.

C’mon Reporters: let's learn more about this guy: he was in the midwest, not Africa. Someone knows him. Did he go to school on the GI Bill, marry, have kids, etc., etc. etc.
