According to Ancestry.com Obama’s missing gramma had one brother Charles W. Payne, born about 1924. No record of a Charles W. Payne enlisting or being inducted in Kansas during WWII. Unless he left Kansas at 18 or so.

Just call me a bit skeptical. Once a fibber, always a fibber.
If he was Section 8'd and living in the attic, there ought to be some record of it somewhere. I'm sure gramma (if she can hear from under the bus there) is going to be real proud of her grandson for throwing her poor brother under the bus too.
I wouldn’t hang the whole story on account of an incorrect initial, since there are other Charles Paynes listed from Kansas, but I think the whole “the only good veteran is a traumatised veteran” trope the Democrats are attempting is shameful.
If Obama wants to inject his family history as evidence, we ought to be able to examine the record.
Probably Obama’s ancestor is Chester W. Payne:
Payne, Chester L. Inducted 31 January 1945, Army 37760745 Registered, order # 12622-A Wichita, Sedgwick Co. (Board # 3)
Sedgwick County is where Obama’s grandfather lived, according to Ancestry.com.

BTW, my husband is related to Obama, through the Allred line from Overton County TN.
