WASHINGTON: The highest-ranking U.S. military officer has written an unusual open letter to all those in uniform, warning them to stay out of politics as the United States approaches a presidential election in which the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be a central, and certainly divisive, issue.
"The U.S. military must remain apolitical at all times," wrote Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. "It is and must always be a neutral instrument of the state, no matter which party holds sway."
(snip)
Mullen said he was inspired to write the essay after receiving a constant stream of legitimate, if troubling, questions while visiting U.S. military personnel around the world, including, "What if a Democrat wins?" and, "What will that do to the mission in Iraq?"

***If Obama wins, we may need the military to step in and save the country.***
I was worried about this during the first Clinton presidency. Now I have to sweat it out again.
*Re-enlistments will dramaticaly drop, and resignations of commissions will spike. No one will want to serve leaders that despise them*
This is exactly what the anti war Liberals and Libertarians
want.
Our Military deserve better.
Very well stated.
BUMP what you said.
It will make the transition easier, just in case.
“If Obama wins, we may need the military to step in and save the country”
No sir...if 5000 assclowns can give them a hard time in Iraq...what can 60 million assclowns do?
All we need them to do Is stand by their oath....even if it means staying out of the way for a week or two...
hey...just sayin...
Excellent graphics! Good man, and WELL done!
What a bullshit response. And this guy is supposed to be an Admiral? Hey Admiral, why don't you just tell them which way to vote?
They can do just about anything they like to get their candidate elected. As long as they don't do it in uniform. This "Admiral" may was well just tell them the First Amendment doesn't apply if you are in uniform. Putz.
I am more worried about Mccain winning, because he will do exactly what obama will do only slower most republicans will roll over and say well he is our guy and we kept obama out. I really aint scared of eithe one of them, however I am prepared for hardship, I’d rather have obama. It would be like scab, with mccain you just pick at it, obama you go an rip the thing off, it hurts like hell but you are over and done with it.
My daughters have said that they will not re-enlist in such a case.
Tell me about it! I live in a Liberal cesspool of a city in Oregon (Ashland, for the curious), a small city completely in the toilet for BHO, and every year before Memorial Day some folks go down the main street and fill the flag holders on the meridian lamposts with rocks and glue to keep the city from placing flags in them.
Except this year - they didn't have to. Why? Because the city didn't fly a single flag anywhere in the city - only the Fire Department had a proud American flag flapping in the wind. Only the Fire Department - on Memorial Day!
I took pictures of the empty flag holders, and the flag-less sight both up and down the Blvd., but I used my 35mm and so have to wait for the film to develop, otherwise I'd be posting them here.
Well at least we know our troops won’t have to serve under “Her Majesty”. Last time the Clintons were in the WH, our soldiers were treated like waiters.
I was watching President Bush at the Memorial Day services today and was thinking that this time next year, McCain will be handling this and what a great picture that will be. A former POW, now commander in chief speaking to his troops.
“Re-enlistments will dramaticaly drop, and resignations of commissions will spike. No one will want to serve leaders that despise them, will send them on peacekeeper: missions, under fund and poorly supply them and will willingly consider them expendable, in the face of expedient surrenders.”
This didn’t happen under Clinton. In fact, the entire present military leadership prospered under Clinton.
The military had to throw people out of the service so they could maintain capability with reduced budgets.
Oh, and food for thought - none of the present military leadership resigned under Clinton.
Than Obama? Are you insane?
I'm certainly no fan of McCain, but when it comes to the military there is no comparison between those two with regard to impact on morale and readiness.
The Democrats don’t care about the war or any other issue peripheral to their agenda of turning America into a French-style, secular-socialist welfare state, except insofar as an issue can be spun for political advantage. Their ultimate (and ultimately unreachable) goal is to finally create what old-time Austrian economists called “the socialist man”, and a society in which all men will ALWAYS put the good of the community (or “village”) ahead of their own welfare.
And, of course, the reason the Democrats have relentlessly pursued this agenda (since FDR) is because it is their means to the selfish end of attaining and keeping political office. (There’s sure a lot of perks, power, and priviledge that comes with high elective office, you betcha!) The Democrats are pushers of the drug known as “government” and they naturally want to create as many addicts (”base voters”) as possible.
Unfortunately for this once great nation, they have been winning (oh-so-gradually, but surely winning) for quite some time now.
like i said I’d rather pay the price upfront(obama) then just wittle away with Mccain. Most people arent willing for hardship face it folks there is going to be hardship with either one, mccain will just do it slower. Mccain is the warm pot of water us frogs are in.
///not voting for obama or mccain.
I suggest you try something a little more anti-liberal than taking pictures next time ;^)
