N.M. congressional ballot has no incumbents
Associated Press ^ | May 24, 2008 | Barry Massey

New Mexico voters have never seen this many open congressional seats: None of the state's three House members is seeking re-election, nor is longtime Sen. Pete Domenici.

The unprecedented turnover will leave New Mexico with precious little seniority when the next Congress convenes.

All three House members — two Republicans and a Democrat — decided against running for another term and instead sought Domenici's Senate seat. The six-term Republican is retiring because of a degenerative brain disease.

For Democrats, this year's election offers their best chance to pick up seats that have been in the hands of the GOP for three decades.

"The six-term Republican is retiring because of a degenerative brain disease."

That doesn't stop most of the other politicians in DC.

Unfortunately, New Mexico doesn’t look promising right now.

NM is traditionally one of the biggest disappointments of Republicans.

My words exactly.

“Degenerative brain disease” is a very basic and important job requirement to run for congresscrook.

Sure doesn't. Heck, the Dems have one Senator (Tim Johnson, from South Dakota) who has brain disease and didn't sit in his seat for a year.

But they were desperate for him to come back because, if he didn't, then the SD Republican Governor would've appointed a Republican replacement, giving the Senate back to the Repubbies.

I really wish that Rep Heather Wilson can win the seat. A solid conservative and a USAF Academy grad to boot.

You don’t think Pearce is too? He was my representative and was very active locally, it was a rare thing to have our representative visit as often as he did.

Pearce passes the conservative test.

Pearce passes the conservative test, yes indeed. The problem is that NM does not pass the conservative test.

"A solid conservative and a USAF Academy grad to boot."

That statement is half correct.

Pearce is the only real conservative in the race. Heather used to be one; Now she is about as reliable a conservative as McCain.

Heather Wilson won’t be the nominee, she has sky-high negatives.
