Steering a country is like steering an ocean liner or a super tanker. Only slight changes in direction are possible. The trend toward conservatism in the Republican party which was dominant during the Reagan years and the Gingrich leadership in Congress, has been reversed. The power of the rinos is pulling us back toward their preferred view of the ‘correct’ direction for our country. They never liked the direction that ‘bible-belters’ took them - the countryclubbers - and now they are feeling power.
If we real conservatives quit being involved, ie, won’t share our party with the rinos in the next few years, the much stronger pull from the leftist/socialist wing of the democrat party will pull the wheel so far over that we (America as we know it) will swamp or capsize (continuing the sailing analogy.)
True, but I believe he has the cojones to smile politely and say "I won't answer any of your questions, as the President has stated that my testimony here would violate constitutional separation of powers."

Good Morning, just wanted to share the new tag line with conservative minded folks who will be out to defeat Liberal Democrats on issues and not gender nor race.
Here are two more energy related FR threads.

Obama has 2 irritating habits too, smoking and saying ‘ahhhhhhhhhhhh’ when not reading from a script. At least McDole had a clean bill of health and released his medical records, Mr Clinton didn’t let voters see his medical records, drugs or VD I’d suspect.
To paraphrase what I posted a couple of weeks ago, the Good Ship GOP, with Captain John McCain, regards conservatives as the rats, and are determined to politically exterminate us. If they make it into a safe harbor they will finish us off. If the ship sinks, we all drown.
don’t trust anyone in DC to help Rove
Another in the short list of VP picks President McDole should consider.
CBS - two RATS and an uber RINO :)
Maica, congratulations on electing the real Conservative in your primary. That’s where the party will be won back.
Here http://blog.nrcc.org/comment.cfm?entry_id=400 is Tom Cole’s RINO Manifesto and some of the replies to it from Republicans. I didn’t count but if the 400 above is the number of responses, they pulled a lot because there were well over a thousand at one point in time—pretty early. I didn’t check back after that because I pretty much had the gist.
I have to disagree with you. McCain does want us along for the ride. He just wants us to stay in steerage or the engine room, and not get uppity with the first-class passengers.
Morning AB, All,
Am up, chipper and very excited about what I know will be a slew of pubbies out and about in the public forum discussing what is a plethora of items to better bring our less informed citizens than ourselves on board.
We have those terrible congressional hearings with big oil and I can’t wait to see the pubbies condemn such irrational behavior and to use the bully pulpit to make arguments for drilling on our own land. Not to mention the fine, fine Maxine Waters, who right out loud said the word “socialize” in reference to our oil industry.
Americans don’t think much of government taking over business and the pubbies have had a great softball lobbed to them. I am quite sure they will use it as a talking point to continue to hammer home the conservative message or less government and the danger of the Dems.
Then there’s that congress critter in Californya....Richardson, who defaulted on not one, not two, but THREE home loans and again, the pubs have had a nice softball lobbed to them. I expect they will be talking about this congress critter, how she represents the sort who defaulted on so many of those home mortgages the Dems want to bail out, asking us viewers if THIS is the sort of person we want to go paying off their loans.
I am no longer going to rant and rail re the deceit, dishonesty, anti-American, bad behavior of the Dems. My rant will be from now on.....WHERE ARE THE REPUBLICANS?
Finally, I warn that we should all hang around till the end of the thread later in the day when the strange ones descend upon this very popular thread.
And please....WATCH HOW THE COOKIE CRUMBLES!
Heh.
Maybe, but I don't feel like nibbling on any cheese.
I find that BBQ of his this weekend very interesting.
I’d be quite pleased to have either Romney or Jindal on the ticket as VP. I will believe it when I see it.
If he goes with meterosexual Charlie Crist it will just be more of the same from McCain.
You are not alone as evidenced by the passionate and furious responses to Tom Cole. I hope they do ask him about that, though I'm sure he'll blow it off just as he'll blow off all of us and everything we stand for.
If McCain picks Bobby Jindal or someone to Jindal's right, I will vote for him in the hopes that McCain just feels too old and picked on to continue and resigns (hopefully in the first few months).

Government Of Iraq Making Progress
BAGHDAD A safer and more secure environment has not only brought Iraqis and their neighbors out of their homes to enjoy life, but has given the Government of Iraq a chance to reconnect with its citizens.
Over the last 15 months, leaders with the Multi-National Division - Center have seen where the GoI has made significant headway in its administration of security, governance and reconstruction.
There have been positive steps: better budget execution, better distribution of services, more involvement with civil organizations. The list goes on, said Brig. Gen. Edward Cardon, deputy commanding general for support for MND-C. There is still much work to do, but clearly the security situation has opened a window of opportunity for the government to work and we are seeing progress.
These developments are particularly evident in MND-C, the region south and southeast of Baghdad.
This secured environment has allowed the GoI to extend its reach to provincial, qada and nahia levels. Task Force Marne Soldiers and U.S. Department of State provincial reconstruction teams have helped develop a system that bridges these local institutions with GoI ministries and representatives.
Iraqi officials routinely fly to rural communities to meet with councils and labor organizations to learn about the challenges they face and coordinate GoI resources to address these problems.
This arrangement has substantially increased the scale of GoI funding and involvement, dramatically impacting the quality of life for Iraqis. For example, last year, the GoI spent $1 million in the Mada’in Qada; so far this year, they’ve spent $86.1 million.
Within MND-C, these initiatives include a canal cleaning in Jurf as Sakhr, a new bridge in Hawr Rajab and an elementary school refurbishment in al-Buaytha, to name a few.
Another way the GoI is strengthening its role in rebuilding Iraq is the GoI Commanders Emergency Response Program (I-CERP). This program, which kicked off earlier this month, uses GoI money to fund projects through the existing framework of the Coalition forces CERP.
To date, the GoI has committed $300 million to I-CERP, of which MND-C has received about $56 million for the provinces in the TF Marne operational environment.
I-CERP specifically contributes to reconstruction projects that promote self-sufficiency, such as schools, water purification plants, health clinics, city planning facilities, roads, sewers, irrigation and construction.
Due to the improved security environment, governance, economic development and reconstruction have come to the forefront, Cardon said. While these areas have not advanced as fast as everyone - including Iraqis on the street - would like, there is clear evidence that improvements are being made in every area.
As the capabilities of the Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army improve, Iraqi Security Forces are increasingly assuming the lead in kinetic operations and maintaining security.
Last fall, for example, Task Force Marne handed over complete control of security in Karbala to ISF. The ISF has proved itself remarkably successful in preserving peace and stability in the province.
Even in the more tumultuous provinces, security is progressively shifting from the duty of Coalition forces to ISF. During the past two large-scale operations in MND-C — Marne Piledriver and Marne Dauntless — the ISF assumed the lead role, with TF Marne Soldiers in support. Through these efforts, ISF is clearing some of the last bastions of al-Qaeda in the TF Marne OE.
.
Me again, sorry it’s so long, just need to extend a gratitude of thanks to American Forces;
And No Thanks to Democrats who will; 1. ruin the legacy of our Forces for their political gains, 2. ruin Iraqis and their neighbors enjoying life.
