YONKERS - During a Sarah Lawrence College graduation speech she apologetically admitted was filled with "random" thoughts in lieu of a theme, Oscar-winning actress Jessica Lange received thunderous applause from students after comparing America's troubled role in Iraq with its troubled role in Vietnam when she was their age.
"History repeats itself," she told them today, repeatedly tucking her messy blonde hair behind her ears. "It is a heavy burden to inherit."
Lange, whose daughter Hannah Jane Shepard was among the 435 seniors and graduate students in black caps and gowns at the liberal arts college's 79th commencement, urged the students to "make a better world ... to educate, to heal, to entertain, to illuminate."
Along the way, they should also remain open to random possibilities, she added, such as the unexpected invitations that took her from a Midwestern college art class to a Parisian mime school to a Hollywood screen test, all within six years.
Student, faculty and alumni speakers expressed similar sentiments, asking the small class to maintain a balance between social responsibility and silliness, nonconformity and community-building.
During the ceremony, the seniors presented their new alma mater with $168,000 for future scholarships - the largest class gift in a decade.
Poor Jessica. With age did not come wisdom but visible revelation of her inner ugliness.
Just remember: her views are agreed upon by the majority of the American sheep.
Reading your post (starting about halfway), I thought you to be a troll... but sometimes someone (the poster of the message) makes a good point afterwards; so I continued to read the post.. and the further I read it, the more I believed that you must be a liberal troller on here... the next step I made, as with any other experienced freeper, was to see when you became a member (believe it or not, I have been freeping for more than 6 years..). You’ve been here MUCH longer than I have, but your views are almost direct opposite of us conservatives.. and you are still here!
Mt question is... (maybe I misunderstood your post) Why are you still here if you can’t understand the importance of our (your, since I have been in Japan for many years now) safety to the country of the United States of America and the people who make it the greatest country that it now is? And why do you exaggerate the process that makes it so? I don’t know you, nor can I see your personality or read your mind... but this post that I am replying to makes you seem to be pretty far left... please forgive me if I’m wrong.... and it is, after all, a free country.... not to mention the thousands, if not millions, of lives taken for protecting it.
OH! and I’m also sorry for not being able to separate my paragraphs.... still haven’t figured out how to do that with this ‘HTML/XHTML’ code :/
Sarah Lawrence? Who ever heard of that place; or if they did, why? Anyone from there ever do anything both reputable and noteworthy?Good question... I've never heard of it..
Just remember: her views are agreed upon by the majority of the American sheep.
my Dog is smarter than she is, and he's been DEAD for six years!!!BOTH are great points!!
[”It is a heavy burden to inherit.”]
I would like to know what ‘burden’ anything, in the outside world, has affected this loon except stupidity and bad surgery.
I used to wonder why leftist speakers are so “popular” at colleges. I know of two reasons. One is after telling the crowd what they want to hear, they also keep the students and graduates separation from reality going. The second reason is that they’re available. A non leftist speaker who would give them worthwhile advice is probably hard to get being that they’re usually doing something important.
After reading her speech I also came to the conclusion that the people who select the speakers want to make sure that the students feel that they’re smarter than the speaker.
Only the lucky.
Yes, you are mistaken about me. That post, if you had gone to the link, was the graduation speech by Jessica Lange (the subject of this thread).
“She looks like the crypt keeper.”
Not bad for 59, but not anything that a college boy (or girl) would want to wake up next to.
Sorry about that... I guess I should have looked more into it :D Was too tired I guess.
