WASHINGTON (CNN) -- One sailor was treated for first-degree burns and 23 others for heat stress after a fire on a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier burned for hours, the Navy said Friday. The U.S. Navy described a fire as "serious" aboard the USS George Washington. There were no fatalities on the ship.

Hope this isn't a repost.
Prayers, gratitude, and blessings to you and your son.
I had the priviledge to sail on the USS Boxer with my Marine Corps brother after his tour in Iraq. Those firefighters on board the ships are well trained, and I am sure the news agencies made amountain out of a mole hill.
Praise that they are all ok.
thank you
A salute to your son! Prayers for the injured sailors. We watched the PBS series “Carrier” recently, and it was fascinating.
Ping
My son trains for firefighting constantly.
I’m sure you’re right about the “mountains out of molehills”, too.
My husband just said they (CNN and MSM) are probably trying to spook Japan (since this is the first nuke powered vessel they’ve allowed in their water).
You know, anything to make the U.S. look bad or incompetent is what they like.
First degree burn = the equivalent of a bad sunburn. Thankfully, that was the worst injury sustained
Thanks for that ping to magslinger. I was gettin’ there. ;-)
thanks for setting the record straight. Who knew that CNN would exaggerate a story.../sarc. That is really horrible to do for folks back home wondering about family members on board. I am extremely glad that your son is well and hope he will be able to call soon....However, those phones on board are not the best but I have no doubt he will do everything he can do to call as soon as possible.
God Bless him....
Served on a carrier back in the 70’s...
We had to watch the Forrestal film as part of our training....
Nasty stuff...fire aboard a carrier
Thanks for that, too...sounds so much worse the way they said it, of course. I’m feeling better already.
Well, I don’t know if I should go into any details here, but she mentioned something about that, too. (loose lips and all...)
Thanks.
I know. We got to go aboard back in March. The size is just breathtaking.
I have nothing but praise for the young men and women that work on our carriers. They are without doubt as professional and courageous as any folks we have serving in today’s military.
First nuke they've allowed to be homeported in Japan. Plenty of nukes have visited the land of the rising sun.
True...OPSEC is something that I have been guilty of at times when having a basic conversation and perhaps gave more general info than I should have...it seems most people have before but not for negative reasons. Bottom line, glad all is working out.
“We had to watch the Forrestal film as part of our training....”
There was a reason they called it the “USS Forrest-Fire”...I’ve seen that video...absolutely terrifying.
Prayers to all on board. Here is a link to a carrier in heavy seas
