McCain: so wrong, but so what? (those polled prefer McCain for Iraq)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 22 May | Rosa Brooks

Unsolved mysteries of the universe: Where did matter come from? Why did all those ships vanish in the Bermuda Triangle? Is there really a Loch Ness Monster?

And here's a new one to add to your list. In poll after poll, about two-thirds of Americans say they oppose the war in Iraq, believe things in Iraq are going badly for the United States, disapprove of the way President Bush is handling the war, consider even the initial decision to go to war to have been wrong and want the next president to end the war quickly. Yet -- and here comes the mystery -- polls also show that more Americans trust presumptive Republican nominee John McCain than either Democratic presidential candidate when it comes to handling the war in Iraq.

Go figure.

Go figure what? McCain isn’t anti-American like the Democrat candidates, and America isn’t anti-american.

Nothing more to figure out.

Well duh! Maybe it's also because many Americans know that foreign policy is more than just trying to win a grudge about who is wrong and who is right in Iraq.

Reminds me of ‘72. Most people then agreed with MCGovern about ending the war. But, damned if they were going to turn the country over to an anti-american left wing acid, amnesty etc nitwit balding hippie.

The polls are misleading not only is McCain the lesser of three evils the passion against the Iraq war is not there except within the far left of the Democrat party. Obama has a huge problem and that is because he is confusing the passion of his core supporters for the ability of him to win.

Democrats consistently do this. They assume that the negative proves the positive which is almost never the case. Just because I don’t want a polluted world doesn’t mean I want a tyrannical tax happy environmental dictator wasting resources trying to stop global warming while letting the most venerable of the world’s people starve to death. Just because I believe in civil rights doesn’t mean I want to remake the society in the motif of public gay sex extravaganzas while my kids are indoctrinated in the acceptance of the most vile behaviors. Just because I believe in charity does not mean I want to turn over even greater control of my finances to a government that has proven beyond a doubt incapable of managing the money it already has even if it could do a better job at helping people which it is fairly clear it can not.

If the alternative to war is electing a traitorous socialist party then give me war every time. Even a hundred years of war would not be too much!

I don't support McCain and don't plan to vote for him. But most Americans know Obama is simply a black Jimmy Carter with a nice smile who's ignorant about the world being a dangerous place. The larger point to be made is the Presidency isn't simply a glorified governorship. A governor can make a mistake and a state can recover. America can't recover from a mistake by a President that could cost it her existence. We barely survived Pearl Harbor. We won't survive a nuclear Pearl Harbor and that's exactly why Americans don't want to put someone who doesn't know the difference between an ally and an enemy in charge of our country during wartime.

“Go figure what? McCain isn’t anti-American like the Democrat candidates, and America isn’t anti-american.”

Maybe I can't see the “BIG PICTURE” like so many pro-McCain supporters’ can, but I don't see how being pro-illegal alien, and anti-first amendment, let alone being a believer in Gorebull Warming is anything but a detriment to the future of America. I won't even mention his asinine positions on Gitmo and waterboarding...sorry-I guess I did mention them after all.

As you whine about minor McCain crap this radical socialist crowd drove off Joe Lieberam out of there party . He was the VP nominee only 8 years ago ! Once in power they will use the FCC, SEC< and the Supreme Court to shut us all up with new rules and regulations shutting down talk radio and the new media . The Left wants power and make plans to keep it forever. This us not the Dem party of 8 years ago.
Its the Ned Lamont - DU- Daily KOZ - Soros - MOVEON.org radical socialist party and you help them get into power by seating out any election.

The liberals are depressed that they could not sway the people with the lying main stream media reports about Iraq. Even the people who are against the war know that it would be a stupid to surrender as the democrats want to do.

Re: Linking McCain and “Common sense conservatism”

Respectfully , that is a stretch and then some.

How SchwarzenKennedyesque, imo.

Just call yourself Progressives and leave the rest of the conservative movement alone and quit trying to redefine it to fit this lukewarm candidate. Conservatism is not served by bowing down to those who leap across the aisle to stab “their own” in the back and do so with glee.

Give it a rest. It’s a campaign slogan. If you have a problem you can take it up with Phil Gramm.
