Interesting, information found in our local paper …
From Congressional Medal of Honor Society: The first award of the Medal of Honor was made March 25, 1863, to Pvt. Jacob Parrott, and five others.

Since then there have been 3,466 Medals of Honor awarded; for 3,461 separate acts of heroism; performed by 3,447 individuals (including nine “unknowns”).

Today, there are 105 living recipients of the Medal of Honor. Thirty served in World War II, 14 in Korea and 61 in Vietnam.

The most recent Medal of Honor given was for an action in Iraq. Navy SEAL Michael Monsoor posthumously received the award on April 8.
