John McCain lauds Barack Obama's strategy on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'
LA Times ^ | Scott Martelle

We can't tell if this is a barometer of how the fall general election might feel, but John McCain today compliments Barack Obama on his political acumen in a televised interview on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," a curious appearance for a candidate still trying to gather support from the Republican Party's social conservative base.

Host Ellen DeGeneres asks McCain about Obama's contention that "a vote for you is basically a vote for" a third George W. Bush term. Says McCain: Good strategy.

"I think it's a very intelligent campaign tactic. Obviously the president's popularity and approval ratings are low. So I think it's a pretty good tactic. I don't think it happens to be true, and I believe that I can show people not only where we have diverged, but serious differences: the issue of climate change, which is a huge issue out there in the state of California; the issue of spending; the way the war in Iraq was conducted for nearly four years, which was terribly frustrating.

The worthlessness exhibited by the candidates running for POTUS on both sides of the aisle this cycle is astounding.

I didn’t understand the original post. Does the McCain campaign offer extra points for ambiguity?

Great catch, FRiend bcsco.

Thought so.

As for me, He’ll have to go a long way to convince me I shouldn’t write in a name or not vote for the Presidency at all. But that’s up to him. Not you, not me. Him. The ball’s in his court, and so far, he’s going the wrong way.

Check out the sign up dates on every pro-McCain poster on this thread (90+% are 2008 sign ups).

It’s hilarious - the points system must be working really well.

Yep. I've been doing that these past few days. It's amazing how many there are on these threads. And I think the thread yesterday announcing the points program gave them a whole bunch of unwanted exposure. I love it!

These naive fools don't even realize that Obama- Chavez and the Moveon.org-Dem party Hate THEM as the rest of the American public and plan to shut us all UP as soon as they take POWER. They will regulate out of business the conservative airwaves and the internet sites.

That's pretty funny considering who has the most legislative experience at that.

Stifling the www? Online Freedom of Speech Act (H.R. 1606)

"1606 is needed because federal courts have ordered the Federal Election Commission to regulate "electioneering communications" on the Internet because of the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act (McCain-Feingold). If H.R. 1606 fails to become law, your Web site or blog could be shut down for the 30 days prior to a primary election and the 60 days prior to a general election should you express "electioneering communications."

John McCain, enemy of free speech

Not Child‘s Play [McCain/Schumer bill could effect FR?]

John McCain, you treasonous bastard, I challenge you or any of your traitorous cohorts... (thread by Jim Robinson)

Great catch...

That's two for me today, and both on this thread. As Jim Rob & the gang would say...WHOOHOO! I believe I had another snag on a thread yesterday.

Hey, Jim, can we start our own points program? Maybe award a FRiendly FReeper graphic or something to the most worthy FReeper? But make it retroactive so I can get credit for these. :)

Yep. McCain has Obambi beat hands down. Hillary too, for that matter. When it comes to effective long term experience as a liberal socialist backstabber, you can't beat McCain.

It's almost as if, every time I think, “OK, I might just hold my nose and vote for McPain.”, Johnnie goes and pulls yet another of these nauseating displays.

By November, I don't know if all the cologne in the world will cover the smell of this RINO”s feces.

That's nothing compared to his Glowbull Warming creds. He's the all time leader.

Obama was a community organizer. I heard someone explain that the other day.
It means he helped people get potholes filled and "Slow Children" signs installed.

Thought so what? I could care less who you vote for.

As far as not voting or writing in someone, go for it, its a free country last time I checked.

You can also put you tin foil hat back in the box, Im not a super secret McCain operative or whatever it is you make allusion to. You are entertaining though, thanks for the chuckle.

Last time I checked, a man and a woman are not the same.

Don't oppress me with your outdated ideas of 'gender', you right-wing fundamentalist nazi.

(do I really need a sarcasm tag?)

Sometimes you guys disappoint me. Not only do you ignore that this is the liberal LA Times, but you ignore the fact that the Times left out of the headline: THAT MCCAIN SAID OBAMA'S CLAIM WAS NOT TRUE, namely that McCain was the continuation of George W. Bush.

Didn't you read a thread here earlier about the LA Times claiming that Californians oppose gay marriage by a "small 19% margin"? Do you call a 19% margin small? Since when?

Moderators should really control misleading anti-McCain threads.
