Bangkok - The United Nations will send nearly a quarter of a million condoms into cyclone-hit Myanmar to help needy survivors with no access to contraceptives, a UN official says.
So far, the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) said it had sent 72 800 condoms to survivors struggling to maintain their family planning after the storm hit in early May.
A total of 218 400 condoms would be delivered, UNFPA aid advisor Chaiyos Kunanusont said.
"We don't want regular use of contraception disrupted. An emergency usually damages the health system, so people don't have access to condoms and contraceptives," said Chaiyos.

OK, so I get it now. Everyone who supports use of condoms also commits murder in his spare time...

These places merely prove the point that more people equals more wealth. In every country where the population is increasing, so is the standard of living. The material standard of living has increased worldwide due to mechanized production. Not because third worlders fed on the Western dole are having more kids.
Some of you don't seem to understand that wealth is not something that is to be distributed, it is something that is generated.
How exactly do large generations of young people you can't afford to feed properly let alone school in a trade generate wealth? 70% of Burma is living by subsistence farming. That's wealth?
Humans aren't immune to population pressure.

The material standard of living has increased worldwide due to mechanized production. The material standard of living has increased because of people. Mechanized production is just one example of how people have achieved that progress. More people equals more progress.

The "western dole" is a source of problems, not a solution. It is just another example of meddlesome statists who won't mind their own business. In the vast majority of cases, it is a CAUSE of malnutrition (such as the Clinton rice imports to Haiti, which resulted in local farmers being unable to compete with "free" food and abandoning their farms). You and your kind are not solving problems; you are causing them.

No, that is stupid government. The same sort of meddlesome stupid government that you people are advocating. In the case of Myanmar, it also happens to be combined with somewhat more overt forms of tyranny.
Humans aren't immune to population pressure.
Immunity implies that population is a disease. The very choice of words used by your kind show the dark nature that underlies your twisted philosophy. That your kind is trying to justify sending condoms to a people who are suffering due to a natural disaster instead of more practical aid (medical and engineering assistance, for example) proves your utter depravity.

Sorry. I didn’t see “The Coneheads.” Bet it was a real doozy though.

Get real. There are reasons that the resources of the world seem to be growing shorter in supply. Economic growth in the third world is the most significant reason, and it would be a whole lot less significant if the demand for more goods in China was coming from just a few hundred million people instead of 1.1 billion people. Thats just a fact of economics, which cant be denied.
- The creation has plenty of resources. We haven't even scratched the surface.
- Economic growth in the third world is a wonderful blessing from God toward all mankind. A rising tide lifts all boats.
- The Chinese people create many more goods than they consume. I'm grateful to God for creating all 1.1 billion of them. I pray that Christ continues to establish his kingdom among them.
- Your view of economics is pessimistically "zero sum". I believe that under conditions of virtue, liberty, creativity and hard work, the world's economy is geometrically progressive. Do you think that you would be richer if you were the only person in the world? Who are you to say how many people should have the right and the joy of life? Sure there is only a finite amount a matter available but we don't live very long and we can't take any of it with us.

I’m not arguing for a zero sum analysis. I’m just saying that it’s not the “sky is the limit” either, which is what some seem to be arguing. There is a limit, and there are places in the world where that limit has been reached.

Matthew 26
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Those condoms work as an alternate food source, a source of light, and even warmers. Maybe they’re ahead of the curve here.
