One of the guys who visited the former USSR’s oil facilities after the communists were kicked out noted that the equipment there was 30 years old and in complete decay.
One of our guys visited an oil field in southern Russia when the Reds were still in power and was rather startled to find a perfectly functioning early twentieth century oil field -— complete with bull wheels, jack-line rigs, etc. and staffed with more people than we had in the entire western half of the US. It was as though the twentieth century had never happened.
When I visited a Moscow hospital in the seventies, the equipment looked like it was from the forties.
