Perhaps she should've considered the House; the Senate seems almost too Democratic. In the House, she could've done her time and risen to become the all power-wielding Speaker. In that albeit-theoretical scenario, there is even an outside chance of her becoming President, due to lines of succession.
Good thinking there Lou. She jumped at the first opportunity - Sen. Moynihan’s seat...were there any House seats opening up in NY in 2000.
I expect she wanted the prestige of the Senate as a stepping stone to the Presidency - plus 6 years tenure vs. the House having to run every 2 years.
Saves money and scrutiny.
