Exactly. This is not a judgment from God or karmic payback for Senator Kennedy. This is a disease. Whatever judgment he receives from God is God’s alone to dispense, and we don’t get brownie points for being God’s little helpers—Job’s comforters, more like it.

I am sorry he has cancer. I opposed his politics and thought his private and public life exposed more than the necessary hypocrisy of politics, but it’s a bad way to die.

May God have mercy on his soul.

I believe that if I had to choose a cancer to kill me, it would be brain cancer. The brain has no nerves to detect pain, so any pain felt as the cancer grows would be to adjacent tissue that feels the swelling.

Still, it can't be fun.

In 1917, there were mystic events at Fatima, Portugal -- ironically in the Cove of Irene or Cove of Peace.

The three children were given a vision of hell, which they claimed was so terrifying that if they had not already been promised heaven before and was in the presence of someone from heaven, it was have literally scared them to death.

After reading that and meditating on that, I do not want any soul to go to hell -- it is just that horrible of a place.

The children was shown this vision os that they would not only pray for needy souls but also make sacrifices for needy souls.

Even though they were children, they did exactly that.

We should pray for the conversion of sinners -- Senator Kennedy being one of them. If one is terminally ill, does it help to pray for a speedy recovery? I think the serenity prayer applies here: accepting that which must be.

And we should pray for people like Jim Robinson.

It might be possible with prayer for Jim Robinson to be cured. Certainly the founder of EWTN was miraculously healed.

I just will put prayers for Jim Robinson ahead of those of Senator Kennedy -- not out of prejudice -- but the fact that with the age of the senator and his past drinking problems, this situation might not be reversible.

However, it is possible that there might be hope for Jim Robinson.

They are both in God's capable hands!
