Sadr: Hides in Iran as his Iraq minions lose.
May 20, 2008 -- DO we still have troops in Iraq? Is there still a conflict over there?
If you rely on the so-called mainstream media, you may have difficulty answering those questions these days. As Iraqi and Coalition forces pile up one success after another, Iraq has magically vanished from the headlines.
Want a real "inconvenient truth?" Progress in Iraq is powerful and accelerating.
But that fact isn't helpful to elite media commissars and cadres determined to decide the presidential race over our heads. How dare our troops win? Even worse, Iraqi troops are winning. Daily.
You won't see that above the fold in The New York Times. And forget the Obama-intoxicated news networks - they've adopted his story line that the clock stopped back in 2003.
To be fair to the quit-Iraq-and-save-the-terrorists media, they have covered a few recent stories from Iraq:
* When a rogue US soldier used a Koran for target practice, journalists pulled out all the stops to turn it into "Abu Ghraib, The Sequel."
Unforgivably, the Army handled the situation well. The "atrocity" didn't get the traction the whorespondents hoped for.
* When a battered, bleeding al Qaeda managed to set off a few bombs targeting Sunni Arabs who'd turned against terror, that, too, received delighted media play.
* As long as Baghdad-based journalists could hope that the joint US-Iraqi move into Sadr City would end disastrously, we were treated to a brief flurry of headlines.
* A few weeks back, we heard about another Iraqi company - 100 or so men - who declined to fight. The story was just delicious, as far as the media were concerned.

MSM = Propaganda rags
Not covered by the NYT.

Of course. Anything GOOD for America, is BAD for the radical liberal left and their partners in crime.
This one really is Bush’s fault. He needs to give a weekly national address on the status of our efforts in Iraq - talk right over the heads of the media.
I agree.
I’m sure my friends at USMC’s 1st Radio Bn. will be happy to know there’s a war going on considering the lack of interest from the MSM.
The MSM/Hollywood/Academia axis of evil. No more sniveling, it's time for blood and iron.
PING to politically rabid email contacts
I agree that it would do a lot to counter the media, but I have also heard that President Bush does not want to politicize the military. Its something he apparently does not want to use for political gain.
I agree in a sense, but sometimes its frustrating that people do not hear what great things the military has done and how we are really kicking their butt over there.
Is Jane Fonda on her way to the earthquake zone yet?
If she figures she can trash America from there I'm sure she is and the enemedia will rush to cover it.
The media will not be able to disregard the success of the troops coming home. That’s the Bush matrix of success. They stand up, we stand down. Maybe we are getting closer but it ain’t over till it’s over.

Never happen, and has not really happened to any consequence in almost eight years. He is too weak and not a fighter. The liberals need to be FOUGHT AND DEFEATED, not pandered to, or ignored. They continue to set and control the agenda. We are in for a very hard spell in America.
I agree. Bush would have better ratings and have achieved more if he went on the offensive with reports on the war and economy.
Remember the good old days when news reels would herald our victories triumphantly?
Sigh...
Iraqi troops pour into Baghdad Shiite stronghold ( 'Operation Peace' )
That's faulty reasoning (his, not yours) and it has been a large part of Bush's overall failure.
Yup - failure.
Bush (and Republicans in general) have some mass spinal failure that makes them refuse to defend themselves against the most absurd leftist allegations. My own interpretation is that they are terrified that someone will call them 'mean spirited'...and that the policy isn't working.
The other possible cause is the historic record of MACV's press policy and the massive laziness of the press in those days.
Of course, that was under a Democrat administration and Nixon hardly got the same service.
DOD press briefings won't cure the problem - a spine transplant into the Republican party is the only cure.
bump for later
“This one really is Bushs fault. He needs to give a weekly national address on the status of our efforts in Iraq - talk right over the heads of the media.”
I respect President Bush, but I feel he’s done a very poor job as a communicator. In particular, his failure to denounce the lie of “Bush lied about WMDs” has let it become “common knowledge” for the average person these days. Helped, of course, by the ever-seditious media.
I must say though, that it’ll be fun watching McCain win this fall. :-)
I expect some talking heads will ‘splode. lol
“Bush would have better ratings and have achieved more if he went on the offensive with reports on the war and economy.”
So true. I am so consternated as to why he hasn’t used the bully pulpit for the last 8 yeras. I’ve been saying this for the past 5 years. He should have done many prime time speeches. Just dumbfounds me.
