A big misunderstanding, I say. Afghanistan-born Aziz tried to convince the rabbi that Jews were safe in Muslim neighborhoods within German cities. The hard-headed Jew was not convinced, so Aziz became a tad irritated and marked his disapproval the Afghan way.

Sarcasm aside, there is a reason why some countries are a mess. It's very often because these countries' culture promotes hatred and violence. The lack of self-control and violent impulses of their inhabitants do not magically disappear when they are transplanted in a Western country. Especially when said Western country thinks that all alien cultures are better than its own!

The funny (so to speak) thing is that most European rabbis constantly preach the virtues of multi-ethnic and multi-cultural societies. One can hope that this rabbi, at least, will go against the prevalent BS.

Let’s see, now. Calling someone a “Muslim pig” is a “hate crime” in Germany.

But I did not notice any mention of a “hate crime” conviction of Mr. Aziz for calling the rabbi a “Jewish pig”.

I visited Frankfurt a few weeks after this incident. There were barriers and a police guard around the Westende synagogue, and when we went to the kosher restaurant at the Jewish Center, the guard would not open the gate for us until we could prove we spoke Hebrew.
