31,000 scientists reject 'global warming' agenda

More than 31,000 scientists across the United States, including more than 9,000 Ph.D.s in fields including atmospheric science, climatology, Earth science, environment and dozens of other specialties, have signed a petition rejecting "global warming," the assumption that the human production of greenhouse gases is damaging Earth's climate.

"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate," the petition states. "Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

The Petition Project actually was launched nearly 10 years ago, when the first few thousand signatures were assembled. Then between 1999 and 2007, the list of signatures grew gradually without any special effort or campaign.

But now, a new effort has been conducted because of an "escalation of the claims of 'consensus,' release of the movie 'An Inconvenient Truth' by Mr. Al Gore, and related events," according to officials with the project.

"Mr. Gore's movie, asserting a 'consensus' and 'settled science' in agreement about human-caused global warming, conveyed the claims about human-caused global warming to ordinary movie goers and to public school children, to whom the film was widely distributed. Unfortunately, Mr. Gore's movie contains many very serious incorrect claims which no informed, honest scientist could endorse," said project spokesman and founder Art Robinson.

I don't listen to Rush much anymore, but one of his profoundest reminders is "follow the money".

Seems that Dupont came up with a miraculous replacement for it's older, patent-expiring Freon, when "scientists" claimed Freon was making holes in the ozone... and just as miraculously, they found Freon had no effect on the upper atmosphere! Hmmmmmm...

Of course, I am not a "scientist", have never stayed at HI Express, and have no way to know either way!

I guess my sarcasm wasn’t obvious enough. I thought the use of the term Gorbalists would do the trick but I see it didn’t. I was making fun of the use of computer modeling of weather systems, not supporting it.

Yes I got the sarcasm, I just wasn’t sarcastic enough in reacting to it.

Educated at the California Institute of Technology and the University of California at San Diego, UCSD, Dr. Robinson served as a faculty member of UCSD until co-founding the Linus Pauling Institute of Science and Medicine with Linus Pauling in 1973. Beginning with their initial work together on general anesthesia and the structure of water at Caltech in 1961, Pauling and Robinson carried out published research on a wide variety of topics from nuclear physics to nutrition until 1978. They ceased work together in 1978 because of a disagreement between them on the effects of ascorbic acid on the growth rate of cancer in mice.

In 1981, Dr. Robinson, his wife, chemist Laurelee Robinson, Martin Kamen, and later joined by, R. Bruce Merrifield, cofounded the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine.

Arthur Robinson has plenty of qualifications.

Why do you think that only something associated with a University does valid research ? Because the University takes government ie taxpayer money ?

Did anyone hear anything about the Petition Project announcement which was to have taken place at the National Press Club yesterday at 10:00AM? No mention here or in Google News.

While I am not a believer in anthropomorphic global warming, this petition was circulated and was open to any person with a college degree at the bachelor of science level or higher, whether or not they had any interest, experience, or abilities in climate science or anything remotely related to global warming.

I reviewed the list from my state, and found the name of an orthodontist that I know, who has political aspirations of running for the U.S. Senate. He has no credible background in climatology.

When the list is pared down, there are only 154 signators who have backgrounds in atmospheric science or climatology out of the 31,000 total. Just because you have an advanced degree doesn't necessarily make you an expert in global warming. Conversely, I am sure there are some without any college degrees who have read everything written on the subject and have become, in essence, self-made experts in climatology and global warming.

No, but there are many areas of science that have been brought into the global warming debate. One need not be a meteorologist or climatologist to comment, for incidence, on the effects of cosmic radiation on the upper atmosphere. Similarly, it wouldn't be appropriate for a meteorologist to comment on certain aspects of said cosmic radiation.

The subject of the atmosphere, and all the variables within it, are much too complex for any one scientific specialty to be able to accurately comment on the entire scope. Thus, it is broken down into specialties.

If every scientist on God’s green Earth signed the petition it would not matter one bit as long as the media thinks otherwise. They lead this nation around by the nose. If you want to make yourself free do what I did - get rid of your TV. My whole life is better.

the listing directly above - Sourcewatch.org is VERY damning. I have to run but when I get the chance I want to source "sourcewatch.org.

Not previously familiar with sourcewatch.org, so, just for fun, I checked the entry for "Center for Science in the Public Interest" to see if there might be some ideological bent operating here. CSPI, justly infamous for creating monthly scares over Chinese food, movie popcorn, and other common indulgences some years ago, really IS just a couple of freakazoids and a fax machine who play the media like a fiddle. The sourcewatch article, though brief, took CSPI at face value, with nary a critical note sounded.

So, I suspect that you may find there is no occasion for panic. Crow will not be on the menu tonight.

The global warming cultists will seek to suppress these dissenting views just like the earth centered universe crowd sought to suppress Galileo.
