Texas sect parents complain of vague custody plans
Fort Worth Star-Telegram ^ | Mon, May. 19, 2008 | MICHELLE ROBERTS

Posted on 05/19/2008 5:15:16 PM PDT by Soliton

Donna Guion, an attorney for the mother of a 6-year-old son of the sect's jailed prophet, Warren Jeffs, complained the plans were so vague they would be impossible to satisfy and were contingent on psychological evaluations likely to take weeks more to complete.

"This plan is so vague and so broad that my client has no idea what she can do now," Guion said of the boy's mother.

Others lived as traditional nuclear families in their own housing on the ranch.

Will someone tell me where is the abuse to those people — it is the GOVERNMENT ABUSING their POWER!!!

Don’t start. Anyone who excuses what was happening out there is an advocate for child rape and abuse/mind control of women and children. Don’t post something stupid back to me like “Where’s the proof?” There is plenty. You don’t even have to dig deep to find the info.

LEAVE RELIGION ALONE!!!! There is a SEPERATION between CHURCH and State, and I believe that the STATE is ABUSING the right of people who want to be members.

To me it is a CULT, but to me I believe most of the families there are being ABUSED by Texas for ripping FAMILIES apart!

That is what I'm saying, what about the traditional families who got the kids ripped from them.

Oh, so it is a religous freedom to rape a child? Texas is simply not willing to stand by and let go what has been happening in other states. Warren Jeffs isn’t in prison for jaywalking you know.

Leave religion alone? Explain to me how child abuse and sexual abuse has ANYTHING to do with religion.

These are not traditional families. They are an abomination of the family.

I live in Round Rock, TX and was thrilled to see that place taken apart.

BTW, not only is Texas not abusing anyone, but it is widely reported and evidences that the children removed are THRIVING in foster care.

Sorry, but TEXAS been attacking different religious compound, and the state should get back to what it should be doing! Not bothering people on PRIVATE PROPERTY!

“That is what I’m saying, what about the traditional families who got the kids ripped from them.”

That is the consequence for them, of deciding to live in a commune, with adults that commit or enable statutory rape and child abandonement. Not much by way of evidence they look out for the well being of children.

And the fate of the so called traditional families doesn’t bother me one iota. They are likely waiting in line to get their first shot at a 2nd bride, most likely a minor.

And if they don’t condone statutory rape and child abandonement, wtf are they doing there?

How could she possibly know that? That is what fellow Freepers get for standing up for freedom from dogooders who think that they know it all.

I didn’t see any excuses being made, but just questioning the excessive use of power is to be tarred and feathered as IF you did. Welcome to the club of those who question their government instead of worshiping it.

When was the trial? you know:

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

Childrens’ services does this to give them more time to learn about what’s going on in the family (and who is in the family in this case). Compliance with their directions is very important for a successful outcome of reunification. By dragging things out CS’ (also regarded as an arm of the court) permits observation and data collection under a wide range of circumstances. The overall purpose is to learn the real dynamics of the family and not to be mislead by shallow efforts, ingeniousness or outright deceit.

What’s this “arm of the court” you speak of? No CPS, parents and an impartial judge? Just judge/cps with parents on the other side? WOW. May take some appeals but I doubt that holds up.

As of yet, from Children’s services point of view, there’s no crime and no trial of defendants. This is an investigation and an intervention to protect children from potential harm. Children services is required to have a frequent, periodic review by the court (a hearing) regarding disposition of the children-—not the adults or any alleged perpetrators. These hearings result in one of three outcomes: reunify, permanent custody by the state or continued temporary custody by the state.
