My folks will not accept my Republican values or my conservative boyfriend. Help!
Dear Prudence,
My family members are staunch Democrats and love to bad-mouth Republicans every time the conversation turns to politics. This is heartbreaking, because I myself am a secret Republican. My mom already knows that I'm in love with a Republican, and she won't stop condemning him behind his back for his beliefs, calling him names like "right-wing whack job" and "little lord Republiroy" (also making fun of his height). My brothers all say stuff like, "Republicans suck" . . .

When around Dimocrat I do not speak about anything outside of children, food, or weather.
If they push the issue I call them uniformed boobs and move on.
I read this last week. I think these on-line advice columns are all bunk, this reads like some kind of joke. Do people really believe these columns?
Uniformed Boobs.......(do the hats match too????) sorry for being obnoxious...that just cracked me up!!!
They wear uniforms?
My reply to my similar family members: “Two words: JIMMY CARTER.” Never fails to shut them up.
My bad, they are uniformed in their stupidity and hatred of America.
LOL! This sounds like my family. Hubby and I are conservative but both come from liberal families. Just watch CSPAN some jot down House and Senate bill numbers, refer to them by number and ask what they think of the bills? Once they have the deer in the headlights look wack them with Jimmy Carter remarks and the rest of the afternoon they will avoid you since you made them look like a fool.
I don’t care if someone mocks my politics, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid give me all the satisfaction I need to know that while the party I am part of is not perfect, its certainly the better selection of the two.
Being mocked by people you don’t respect, is not an insult, its a compliment.
My bad
I think it's too late to apologize. You're already in the soup. This might be series.
More than enough room to talk about the NEA and the sad shape of American education, ethanol requirements making us burn food for fuel and global warming to have huge fights just on those three topics. :-)
Of course, we may squabble about ideology, but if it ever got intensely personal -- venturing into personal insult -- you can bet I'd have sharp words for the insulter.
The most radical socialists in my spouse's family are deeply foul and obviously egregious hypocrites, or they are the illegitimate children of same. Need I say more?
