Rather than oppose drilling in the whole National Petroleum Reserve, they have limited fairly severly, their area of concern.
This is a compromise to release the extremely large balance for leasing. There are apparently lease auctions ready to go quickly.
I suggested a little research on your part because in my view the NPR is largely unknown. There is lots of focus on ANWHAR but none on the NPR. It is huge. It lies just west of the Prudhoe producing region.
There are several very informed oilmen here that know the story and will suggest research and then answer questions. Thackney and RightWhale are two.
I have concluded that until the NPR is leased and determination of its actual worth is made, ANWHAR is off the table. If the NPR is found to be of no value, then there will be further discussions and probably concessions.
The whole discussion represents a failure of the media to ferret out exactly what has been an ongoing process for a long time. From what I can learn from knowledgable FReepers is that the issues are so comples they are just ignored by the presstitutes.
Cap and Trade, carbon credits, no drill, no new refineries seems to be not a smart way to independence.
Maybe time for the top talkers to spend more time on these topics and less time on the three losers running for POTUS. We’re so screwed.
See tagline.
Sorry, I did vote for Bush & he has let me down on energy & illegals!
AT this time, we are a good 15 to 20 years behind on dealing with our energy crisis, even to the point of production of energy saving vehicles!!
Well thank goodness. No drilling for at least a decade in this God forsaken, frozen wasteland. Looks like I’ll be able to sleep tonite!
I can't argue with you. You're spot on.
What is it being saved for?
Who needs Democrats when we have republicans?

The bureaucracies have been run run by left leaning Democrats for many years.

Exactly. This demonstrates the danger of term limits for politicians but not for bureaucrats. I favor neither because we only screw ourselves when we destroy the institutional memory. It also serves as more proof that we need to revive the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, so that the size and therefore the power of ever-expanding government bureaucracies is reigned in.
Could someone please remind me why I voted for this guy, TWICE? I have a vague recollection about a pair of dorks named Gore and Kerry...
I give up!
I'm just wondering how high the price of fuel will have to go before folks just say “enough!” and DEMAND that congress & the POTUS whoever he/she is that we start doing more drilling in America...
I voted for him once. 2004 was a no sale.
